GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Quite the outstanding line up there for a spare parts bin. First forum post from a long time lurker and train nut.

Wow, that spare parts Bon looks great. It has 2 of my top favorite engines, Sierra 3 and at the very top, SOU 630. Is this the order GP/SD, W&W 58; RBM&N 425 or FEC 113, 148, or 153; W&W 98; not to sure but it looks to be a 2-8-0, 2-8-2, maybe BC&G 4; a GP-38 or SD-40 or later; the movie star, Sierra 3; the beloved 630; Frisco 1522; Cotton Belt 819; and a UP Bigboy?

Is that the order? Of course with some more specific names for a couple engines though.

Hi All
I have been doing a bit of weathering on my M class' cab. Mostly just subtle dirt and scratches; as well as some 'warping' of metal. Locos of this era (1880s-1910s) were kept extremely clean, often almost mirror like (not quite modeled on mine, as Trainz doesn't currently capture that look too well!), so my goal has been to just make the cab look like I believe it would part way through a shift :)

So far, only the 'shell' has been done, I haven't yet started on the controls :)

Looks good Michael. I used to have a mate in Rockhampton, who had a book from the Baldwin Locomotive Works that had been presented to QR Central Railways. He has passed away some years ago and I am not sure what happened to it. The book contained plans of all the locomotives that were available at the time from Baldwin. The book had pride of place in a glass case that he had made for it. I have the first of your bogies at the paint stage. Do you just want me to release it or do you want to do that. The diagram doesn't have any brake assembly shown. So I am not sure if it did not have any or has just been omitted from the diagram.

Yes, it has your two favorites but if you look closer, there are some pretty blatant errors. Look at the domes on 630(if that is her) - the sand dome shouldn't be bigger than the steam dome. And on Sierra #3, there are problems both visible and invisible in the photo: Firstly, the in-game version at least has a wooden cab. I can't see it in the shot, and considering other parts of the loco look updated, I'll assume that it's been fixed. However, one thing which Niartcar evidently forgot to put in that lineup was #3's bell and wheels. This is just as well - it hides the fact that she has no inside motion; only the rocker arm and valve stem/arm are actually there. Because of this, the space between the frames looks really empty, there's nowhere for the lifting link to go and so the reverser linkage looks incomplete, and because the action is driven by the wheels, it makes animation much more hit-and-miss. Niggly little detail, I know, but it makes the difference between something good and something great. To be even more pedantic, the dome covers are too squared off, and the tender, at least on the in-game model, is either too tall or too short - either way, there's something wrong about its proportions. Other than that, it looks pretty good. Bell on all locos that have them look a little weird to me - either the top isn't wide enough, the curves look wrong, et cetera. This is fairly minor, but it isn't difficult to find drawings of standard bells, and they are extremely standardized(because they need to be the right shape to ring right). Cylinders look wrong on the Big Boy, domes look a little lumpy on 630 alongside with the too-big sand dome, there's a mesh overlay on the GP unit, domes on both W&W locos look off at the top, mostly because the curve isn't full enough on the 0-6-0's dome covers and there's a solid edge on the 4-6-0's domes. I see nothing wrong with the SD24 - the tank could be a little rounder maybe - but it's a highly specific model with the torpedo tubes under the frame, a more common version with roof-mounted torpedo tubes and longer fuel tank would be useful.
Just my thoughts as a self-confessed rivet counter and fellow modeler. Overall, they're to the standard of most existing Trainz content.

The official list left to right is as follows:

EMD SD24, Wilmington & Western #58, Erie Pacific, Wilmington & Western #98, Alco 2-10-2, GP38 (Secret Project, not actually a 38), Sierra #3, Southern #630, Frisco #1522, ATSF #3751, UP Bigboy.

So far all are progressing well, with more in the works. The steam shop is abuzz with new projects.
Our Closed Beta testing program is getting ready to be very busy.

To set the record straight, I am not the creator of these engines, but a member of TEH is.

Words.... TL;DR

Come now Trainboi, you give me too much credit! After all, I had nothing to do with that render other than picking the resolution :p. But you know we like to keep you busy with the critiques, after all we have to give you something to do in your spare time between models. I'm sure the author will appreciate the information, thanks Trainboi.;)

Cheers

The way I know its 630 is the trademark Southern curved handrails. The bell however looks like a fixed clapper bell, 630's is a very notable swing bell. The domes do look a little big, but that's minor. Sierra 3 also looks rather over the years, with cab, tender, and lots of other parts from mismatched eras.

Only the author knows for sure...Wishful thinking good sir.

Will we be seeing more Alcos coming out of TEH as well? If not, im sure that great lineup will do just fine! Excellent work!

Ah, but that would be telling..

Besides, Alco built steam engines.....So we are going back to our roots....

Central Division

Hello Everyone,

Peter, I will be up your way shortly on my way out west to Winton visiting a friend in Mackay who is a train driver; and makes models. I am picking up a few for my Sn.35 Layout of Colton, so perhaps while I am in town pop in and say Hi. As For that Baldwin book, it is now in the care of Archer Park Railway Museum. Expect a nice email regards to those bogies with my finest English Electric 1620s coming your way as a thanks for the great bogie; your welcome to release them but I shall send some textures your way to suit my bogies. The brake shoes were on the very end of the wheels, as per the image of the CLV from SDSR. Do not forget to place on the axle-boxes - "Q on the right and R on the left ' on the very top.

Perhaps, we should collaborate on a railmotor at some stage after the bogies. I can make bits, and the textures where possible

The C17 is going rather well, finishing off the firebox and tubeplate; last to fit the attached cab details. Then smash a bottle of Mac's Draught Beer, Fitzroy Brewery over her; which was tradition for Central Division locomotives that came out after overhaul back into service. In Bundaberg, it was the famous Rum

@Trainboi, any news on when the Garratt will come back to commission? As I am rather keen to show her off on my textured route, and bank her with my C17s down the Razorback. :)

Regards,

M.Gitsham

Hi Micheal,
that would be good to catch up with another trainzer. Below is bogey with brake assembly and one spoked wheel. I think I will make them all like that one.
