Hyatt roller bearings

Thanks, now that I know the name I was able to find some photo's and drawings on them such as this one.

@ Azervich:
I will be very happy if you paint it in Southern colors. The Southern Railway had one NW5, #2100. As far as I know, it's now owned the Massachusetts Central. Here's a picture of it in Southern colors: http://southern.railfan.net/images/archive/southern/switchers/2100-chatanoogamar-1978.jpg

I've already researched into the railroads that had them, the Southern is slightly different in design with the tanks and it looks like a battery box is placed where the water tank is on the others.

My Goal is to try and get it finished around Christmas time so they can be used in Multiplayer sessions :)
too bad their isn't a 12-567A Roots-Blower enginesound around, so I'm going to use the JointedRail 12-645E Roots-Blower, other stuff I'll have on it is animated fans (not the standard type on current models) this will be a shaft base drive fan and will change speed on engine setting (when you see the V/Line, FA, PN P Class locomotives on DLS tonight look at those as that's got the same fan system :) ).

So the Roads I know of is Great Northern, Southern, Burlington Northern, Olir, Masscentral, Mississppi Export, SRI, and Council Buffs Railway.

Cheers.

. . . Masscentral . . .

That's what I mean by Massachusetts Central. When I went to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum's first Railfest in 2011, I got the top-of-the-line ticket, the 'Railfan' pass, and it came with an 'extended' tour of the shops there. I asked if they're planning on getting the NW5 from Masscentral, but the railroad wouldn't let them have it.

Those are early style Hyatt roller bearings, it was mostly phased out of production in the 1940's, so you'll generally only see them on early EMD products.

Don't forget about the dozens of second-generation trade-ins that kept these bearings (usually mixed with the newer round Hyatts) that ran around at least into the 1970s.

G'day Azervich,

...although I am looking at this from 'afar', Aaron, I get the impression the axle-box appears to be more of a 'box' with one edge (the top one) chamfered and the front face parallel with the frame, similar to the old VR 'box type' axle boxes...

Hi Garry,

That's pretty much what I did, built a box and shaped it to an angle then chamfer the bottom corners, I was copying the side drawing I posted above few posts ago, that attempt was a fail, what I really need is a high res photo of the axle box on both side and top view to get a better look at it's design, all photo's I've seen on google are to low res and pixel-ate when I zoom in :(

Now for something I whipped up for the JX/VPCX wagon's :)

G'day Azervich,

...yes, I can see that, Aaron but its the overall 'shape' of the object that is attracting my attention. Here's an example of my 'thoughts' that I "whipped up" earlier...

...which, although of dimensions much larger than those required, indicates what I had in mind (based on 'information' gleaned ONLY from the real world image you "published" above)...

Hi John

Your work looks really nice. And I am just building another NG railway in Sichuan, China--The Rongshan railway. Here are some screenshots of it. The C2 loco is a reskin of the UZD Kch4.:p

Cheers
Felix

Looks good! I can`t wait to get my paypal up and running so I can get TransDEM to make my Chinese route!
