Giving Trainz away

Very occasionally in the past I've brought a copy of Trainz from the N3V website and given the serial number away to be registered by the recipient. Is this still possible or is the serial bound to the user name who brought it these days?

Thanks John

As there is no serial for Digital now, I assume this would only work for boxed copies but I can't see any reason why not, as you still have to enter the registration both in the software and on the serial number page of an account, the recipient would however need a boxed copy.
Hopefully some one from N3V could clarify?

From memory the digital version associates itself with the account used to purchase it. As for boxed copies I would assume it's the standard process that has happened with previous versions (as long as it hasn't been registered onto the profile). That's as far as I know though.

Trouble with the boxed copy route is postage and customs stuff. First into Canada then airmail to the UK. It more than doubles the cost.

Wouldn't be simpler to create a username for the person you are giving the copy to?

It would be better if N3V had a gift-program setup so one could purchase a copy of anything for someone else, and let the other person install the program under their name similar to what is available on Steam.

Complication there is I suspect the person probably already has an account and I'm pretty sure John is not going to pass over his payment details! As the serial number doesn't exist for digital now can't see any way around it, other than ask N3V if something can be arranged.

That actually might work. I'd need to login with a different userid but yes it could be done.

Thanks John

The current "gifting" arrangement is to purchase and then email store.trainzportal.com and provide the username of the recipient.

i have come across a little money and have a youtube channel, i plan on buying about 10 copies of Tane and giving them away. we don't seem to have any good trainz youtube channels that i know of

Apologies for bringing up an old discussion. Is there a way to gift on an old copy of Trainz that has previously been registered to my account?
A free gift of an older version may well bring someone new into the world of Trainz. It did for me!

Afraid not as accounts are not transferable, once registered the software is permanently tied to that username and email.

While that is the policy, perhaps Tony might consider an exception for someone like Chilwelllian aka DavidBird.:)

One for Tony...

Q. How do I register my Trainz Serial Number so that I can use Download Station and post to all of the forum areas?
A. You can register your Trainz Serial Number by logging into your Planet Auran profile. Select the Serial Number option from the left menu on your Profile page. Here you can enter in your Serial Number in the form provided. Once the form is submitted you will be given an indication if your Serial Number has been accepted, here are some messages you may receive if your Serial Number is not accepted:

Serial number not found: You have entered your Serial Number incorrectly, please check the Serial Number character by character and try and resubmitting.
Serial number has already been registered: A Serial Number can only be registered once. If you receive this message and there is no possibility that anyone else would have registered your Serial Number, please notify webmaster@auran.com.
Is there a way this restriction could be lifted for, say TRS12 and below?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that if a 2nd registration request is recieved for the same serial number, it will not be accepted and may result in both accounts being suspended. Even if the 2nd registration cannot be accepted, could you remove the account suspension threat for the original account? This would result in an older 2nd-hand version acting like a fully functioning demo, and may bring in a paying customer in the future. How about that?
