Ghost rolling stock in the "Find" menu

A route made in TANE Build 88364 once had various locos and rolling stock items placed in the route layer but these have been deleted in subsequent iterations (updated versions) of the route. (Locos and rolling stock are all now moved to appear only via associated session layers). However....

If the "Find" dialogue is used, in either Surveyor or Driver, these once-but-no-longer-present locos and rolling stock are listed. If one selects such an item, the "Find" dialogue points at some random spot in the route (the middle of a field, for example) where no such loco or wagon is to be seen. These items are not listed, either, in the route config file. So .... what file of all those describing the route contains these ghost items? Is it one of the many map files perhaps? There are lots and lots of them, with various number in their name and various suffixes.... perhaps they are redundant files somehow retained in updated versions of the route......?

These ghost items don't seem to affect the running of a session with actual and present rolling stock & locos in them; they only appear in the "Find" dialogue list. However, I am a tidy fellow and would like to eliminate these ghosts, just in case they do decide to do some poltergeisting!

Anyone have similar effects and/or know of the cause and way to eliminate them?

This is a known SP2 bug. Do a search for "ghost" in the TANE forum and you will find a number of threads dealing with this issue, such as https://forums.auran.com/trainz/sho...ts-shown-on-map-but-not-in-surveyor-or-driver

The bug has been eliminated in the SP2 HF1 builds, in the sense that routes or sessions created in SP2 HF1 will not have the problem, but unfortunately once it has appeared in a route/session created in earlier builds it cannot be eliminated if those routes or sessions are loaded into a HF1 build.

In my case it was session layers in about 7-8 sessions that were affected by the problem. The only cure was to create those sessions again in SP2 HF1. Fortunately I did not have to recreate the route - another reason for putting consists into session layers only.

I did read some of the other threads about the ghosts but, as far as I could see, there was no explanation of which & what in the files describing the route or session is holding the data referring to them, why, or how to amend the files involved to exorcise the rascals. Perhaps this is because the data-bodies relating to the ghosts are buried too deep to dig up. :-)

As far as I can see, routes and sessions haunted by these ghosts don't suffer any operational difficulties other than the "Find" lists being cluttered up with references to non-existent things. As though a route or session has got religion, perhaps. :-)

That may be the reason why they were not able to come up with an exorcism process to remove the ghosts from existing files.

I had a route that had a couple Amtrak coaches that became faulty after T:ANE updates, the coaches disappeared except for the leading green direction arrow. They did not interfere with other train traffic, so they were ghosted. I was able to get rid of them finally by using the Delete Missing Assets option from the Main Menu of Surveyor.

Don't know if this will help you, but just a thought. Remember to do a backup before using this option.

That can happen in TS12 if you remove a section of track in the route that contains a consist in one of the sessions based on that route. Is that what happened?
