Getting the most out of Compatibility Mode?

Hi.
I have long been annoyed by the performance-degrading effect of Compatibility Mode, however I just put up with it. However today, this happened:

The route just stopped loading. When I loaded this route (Woodhead, on the DLS) without CM, it loaded perfectly. So I came here in search of an answer: How can you get the most out of CM? I couldn't just turn it off, because around 50% of my stuff is quite old and has errors. Thanks to the fascist error checking in TRS2010, all of the rolling stock that have errors will not work without CM. Is there a way to have CM on, but without these issues? Personally I think Auran should delete Native Mode (with the fascist error checking) in the next version, hence preventing the conflicts with multiplayer and insuring that Trainzers enjoy older content.

All you can do is run Native Mode wherever possible, resorting to Comp Mode only when you have to for older routes or content. If however your favourite content IS old and you need Comp Mode almost always, you are going to have issues like the above, specially on newer routes. Native mode handles 'hi impact' content very differently to Comp Mode and newer routes with lots of 'hi impact' content which run sweet as a nut in Native Mode are going to be an issue in Comp. I don't think there IS a fix...

I don't want to not stint you but the most of older content is unenjoyable.

Install a second version of Trainz for use exclusively in compatability mode. Newer assets can then be run as they should be in native mode. When I bought TS2010, nearly three years ago, I decided to only use items that could be made to run in native mode. Notwithstanding that I have a copy of TS2009 that I only use in Compatabilty mode where I have some old TRS2006 content that I very occasionally use.
Incidentally Andi's coaches and I believe The GCD Rod work in TS2010 and TS12. I think Andi's coaches just need the config files changing to vehicle.

 Can't agree with this Nathan. Native mode offers dramatic improvements in performance over older versions so I doubt that most people would want to see Trainz regressing back to pre-TS09 standards.

I run TS12 (which is native only) and virtually all the stuff I have is error free (not least thanks to Auran arranging for the clean up of the DLS over the last couple of years). It's true there's some obsolete stuff out there, but that isn't really worth running in the later versions of the game anyway.

It's also true there are some locos that could do with 'official' updating, Rob Hill's ROD and Merchant Navy come to mind. However I don't accept that's a reason for maintaining compatibility mode let alone regressing the whole game!

Hi Nathan, The probem is not Aurans fascist ways, but yours. Compatabilty mode is history. You will just have to be like the rest of us and fix your assets so they run in Native mode. I downloaded a very good payware route last year but didnt realise it was in compatability mode until I had it installed and it took me 2 1/2 months with help from a very good trainzer friend to fix 211 asset and 308 dependencies. It taught me a lot about trains and I suggest you learn to do the same instead of expecting the 'fascist Auran' to meet your backward standards.

I agree with nimec. Fix the older content and you'll have no reason to use compatibility mode. The repair process is usually very simple and the repairs probably take about 5 to 10 minutes each. As time goes on, you'll actually get faster as you get better at it and will probably be faster than I am. For tools I use GIMP, PEVSoftware's Tools, and a search and replace program for repetive fixes for when the creator made the same error in multiple config files.

Then going forward vet your content like many of us do now. If there's an error that can't be fixed, I delete the content. I no longer look for missing dependencies, or hunt around for a fix for something. In many cases the original author will post a repaired asset in a few days anyway, and if you reall need that asset you can always contact the author.
