Getting started in surveyor - any links to tutorials?

Hi,

I bought trainz on the mac through the app store the other night and while the tutorials for driving trains around is very good there seems to be little to get users going in surveyor.

I had hoped to try out the functionality of my proposed model railway layout prior to building it but can't manage to lay a single piece of track.

Anyone got any links to tutorials that helped them get started?

Thanks

ps, apologies if this has been posted and I've not spotted it.

Did you look in the Manual which you access through the opening screen? There is a tutorial in there, or at least there is in the PC version.

Hi Gfisher, my download came without a manual (also don't seem to have the updates button in my menu screen)

Thanks Clam1952, that's helpful for getting up and running with the driving side, couldn't see much about starting to create my own routes beyond one or two videos linked on the page - I'll have a look at those and see how I get on.

yorkshireSheep - You need to resolve your serial number registration problem before most people will help. For your version, this usually means putting your username and password into the Trainz Options box.

not been on for a little while and been prompted to sort my registration out

I've put my username and password into the option box which I have done although I can't see any change on here, the only thing I can click on takes me to the registration page where I'm signed in.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Kieran,

I'm using the Mac version downloaded straight from the App store so I've not had a serial number to put in
I'm not normally this useless with technology!

Ah, well, that'll explain it, then. :)

I must have missed the part in the original post where you stated you purchased Trainz from the App Store. The App Store version will automatically register its serial number when you enter your Planet Auran details, and it appears to have done so. :)

Welcome to Trainz! :D

Kieran.

I don't have the Mac version but I'm sure there will be a generic (not platform specific) manual in PDF form in an installation folder. The PC version has it in ..\extras\documentation. The Surveyor section starts on about page 80.

The "Hold Shift" KB key when laying and dragging tracks around is the most useful tool, as it stops tracks from clicking together like maganets.

Avoid multi track splines in curves, as they kink, and bend weirdly, in curves (they are good for straight sections, as a track spacing guide tool).

Making proper exact curves and switches is an art:
