Getting Backup Restores to Work Properly.

One of the routes with it's session is the one I forgot to make a .cdp file for, however; I have the backup folder (with the correct KUIDs) and the tarzc files. The Wiki article on restoring the actual backup wasn't really helpful because following those steps the route still doesn't appear in my content list (doesn't register as open for edit). I know I have got to be doing something wrong here. I will just say that restoring a .cdp is a lot simpler than this other process.

Also of note I am on Linux Mint 22.2 (zara) Cinnamon desktop (yes I finally got the game to work on it, though with lots of explitives). The install path is also correct and pointing to the directory it should be.

In a nutshell, the process is as follows.
Shutdown Trainz, including the Launcher first. I find that even having the Launcher open can be a problem.

Take the .tzarc file and copy that to the editing folder.

Start Trainz.
At the Launcher, run a database repair.
Click on the Developer menu and choose Rebuild Database.

This should work. Praying to the computer gods isn't required, but sometimes consulting Oracle and leaving a sacrificial power supply with cables intact and spread sometimes helps.

Note:

Sometimes, you may need to restore a .tzarc.xxxxxx where xxxxxx is some sequence number. To restore this file, copy the file elsewhere and rename it to .tzarc then restore the file the same way as above.

Actually I figured it out, and yeah I John I always have that active. Yes your help is always appreciated.

Now I took the time to re read the instructions (umpteenth time). Turns out I had grabbed the wrong tarzc files (the ones out in the root backup directory). At any rate it was a route I had renamed, but it came up as the original route name (probably because the route and session names will still reading the old ones inside Surveyor). Then I figured out, oh yeah I had deleted this because it didn't want to load. Had this same issue in Windows 10 with this very route. Not corruption, but I don't think Trainz likes to open large routes. So after 2 minutes I went back and just deleted all traces of the route and session.

Ultimately I'm not upset because I have other routes I am building as modules (keeps me focused and I don't meander). One of these days, I might post images of the routes I am building.
