German Route Recomendations?

Hi.

I'm looking for German routes, any era. Any recommendations?

I'm running TRS2006.

Thanks,

Rob.

Hi Rob, besides Ostalgie, have you had any others installed at all, or, is that the only one ??
Were there any built-in layouts in TRS2006, I can't remember now ??

Ex:

(Had to take a little break due to XP SP3 deciding to introduce blue screens to my train-simming experience.)

Well...um...the truth is I do have a few others installed, some of which I haven't really checked out properly. This is the downside to the CMP working well. :p

Black Forest - Early route, a little dated.
DB-Projekt - Haven't really looked at this one yet.
Niddertalbahn - Likewise. Guess this is a steam route.
Ohmtalbahn - This is a nice one.
Ostalgie II (Epoche 5)
PT Dresden-Nuernberg Demo - Came with TRS2006.
U-Bahn Berlin.

Feel free to comment on any already on my list. I'm sure others would appreciate knowing which you think are worth the download.

Regards,

Rob.

Hello Rob,

First thing to remember is that you have version TRS2006, some of the German route availability covers ALL versions within Trainz, of course, the Germans also had TRS2007 which was never really available to anyone else, so you'll have to be careful when downloading stuff to ensure it is compatable to run on your version. I noticed that you don't have TRS2006 SP1, which may restrict you to downloading some of these layouts, however, I have included these for those of you who do have this version installed.
OK, that said, I have put a list together of all the German layouts I have personally downloaded over the years which will offer you different aspects of German Railways. This is not an exhaustive list, I'm sure others will chip in with their favourites.
I have not included some of the layouts you have already mentioned that were built-in routes, those in TS2009, Bad Schandau, Theuringen, and Wirtschaftswunder I've never seen before previously, and are quite superb. These sneaky Germans have kept these in hiding for years, but, thanks to Auran, we can all play on them now......:hehe:
The first 5 routes on the list are electrified or part-electrified. In general these are large-ish maps, so plenty of scope for both passenger and freight workings. I have also added many routes that were primarily created for steam and diesel, some large and some small routes. Some of these it must be said are 5/6/7 years old, and have outdated content to match, such as trees, etc, but with a little bit of tidying up with some new and fresher content, you can make some fabulous layouts. Another feature from our German Trainzy friends were small modules that come under the banner of UM ( U-Make) and iUM, these are sort of pre-packed small modules that you can merge together to form larger routes, great fun and lots to choose from.
Also, there is the 760mm narrowguage railway routes and rolling stock as well on offer, Feistritztal is probably the best starter route if you wish to go down this road with your exploring, michael-h and hupfgeign are fanatics of this type of railway and have uploaded copious amounts of excellent quality assets to the DLS for our enjoyment. There is also the underground railway as well, U-Bahn Berlin, being the most popular layout so far.
Finally, I have written the layout/route names as they appear on the DLS, easier for you to locate, some of these have 2 or more versions, so, I'll leave it up to you as to which ones to download, in general, I have always gone for the latest version, primarily as the route has been extended and maybe correct errors in the previous version. They are in no personal particular order.

I also like to point out the "Trainz 2007 Expansion Pack" which is designed to work in TRS06(SP1), too:

Thanks for the extensive list and explanation, Ex.

Those UM modules sound interesting - I'm going to make a point of checking a few of those out.

Rob.
