hi whats going on just bought game today and it does nothing but freeze and its sluggish and takes ages to follow commands ..also doesent run right the ammount of times i have to shut down and restart ,,all i want to do is play on the bloody thing ,,,,,can someone help please ..my pc is brand new with windows 7 too ,,so far not happy with game at all

It's complicated.

This is a very complex program. So much so, it acts differently depending on the machine it's installed on. You need to spend some time adjusting the program settings and your graphics control panel settings to find what works best on your machine. For instance: Switch from OpenGL to DirectX (apparently, it must be 9.0, not 10 or 11), match your in-program display resolution to match what your desktop is set to, close ALL other applications before running. Essentially, just play around with it.

I was frustrated at first too, but trust me: It's worth the effort.

A brand new computer with Windows 7 doesn't mean that the game will run perfectly straight from the box. What are your systems specs and have you tried making any changes to the default set up of the game?

Yep, some details will be needed to figure it out. Being a new PC really means very little.

What processor type and speed? How much memory is installed?

What brand and model of video card is installed?

....and more...

 You need to configure your Internet settings to allow all the .exe files to access the Internet, such as Trainz.ext, Content Manager.exe, CCP.exe, JAConverter.exe, Launcher.exe.

This applies to your Firewall Manager, be it Internet Security Software, etc.

Allow your choice of Internet Explorer for Auran Forums, in your Browser Security.

The game needs to access the Internet freely, at any time...

This will reduce the need to "allow" User Accounts Control(UAC) during the game, or it's utilities.

Any Internet intrusion that is detected by your Internet Security Software will generate you an alert as a "fail-safe"...keep it up to date.

Also, waiting time for the software to settle itself is also mandatory...

Happy Trainzing!

Because the function is to make it run like an older version of Windows if it isn't running well in the current one. It would be redundant to put Windows 7 there because if you don't select anything, you're running it in Windows 7. :)

Hope that made sense.

yes that does in a way but how can i not save anything im sick of it freezing i click on save rout and when i click save nothing happens and have to press the 3 magic keys to start task manager and shut game down as its not responding ,, how can you play a game when you cant save ,,this is simply awfull i have an older versioin of trainz and its nowhere near as bad as this wich is a shame as this looks really good ,,sorry to be a pain guys but it should do a simple thing like bloddy save it ....,,and another thing i get message saying yout trainz build is out of date please click here to go to forum and download patches ,,and when i go there and click the link i just get about blank and nothing ????? is there anything that actually works on this game ??

Please read our posts - we are trying to help

Take a deep breath guys.

It works perfectly in Windows 7.

If you have not installed the latest service patch it can freeze.

We do need to know your computer specs. If it is a lap top or an low powered machine you might have issues. What processor, memory and graphics card do you have?

Phil

Chill man

When you first open Trainz, in the bottom right of the screen you will find the build number.

Go here for patches:

http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=59816

You should have no problem patching in Windows 7 but it will take some time to expand and patch.

Start the game and go into "Content". It will update the content manager. Take the dog for a long walk because this, again, will take some time.

Before playing go into "Options". Make sure it is configured correctly.

Tell us if this helps.

The freeze-up when saving in Surveyor (assuming you are using SP3) has been reported in dozens if not hundreds of posts here. So, I'd say it's pretty well-known.

You also, it seems, need to at least have installed TS2010 as administrator. It helps to run CM at least once as admin too, as CM sets various file associations on first run. Actually, I think Trainz works best if it always runs as administrator. As I don't (and never will) run Win7 or Vista, I can't say anything from personal experience, just what other people write.

" ... do i need to install all 3"

Just the ones that take you from your build number to the latest build number.

Never? I've just rebuilt my 'puter and decided to install Windows 7. I'm actually very pleasantly surprised, particularly when I added Classic Menu and Directory Opus. It is certainly faster both to load up and play Trainz. And if "User Account Control" is turned off there is no need to go through the Administrator rigmarole.

Although this has been the subject of some debate, much software - including hot 'n' heavy games like Crysis, etc. - run about the same or better on XP rather than Win7, even with the XP machine running (far) less-hot hardware. Of course, this does not take into account newer DirectX versions, but that's not an issue for many if not most simulators, including Trainz and flight sim. That aside, I need to run offline, both for performance and security reasons, which really isn't an option for Win7 or Vista.
