Game crashes when saving

Hi!

Trainz did run good on my computer, but now, when I try to save a session, the game just crashes. I have to exit the game via the task manager, cause nothing else works.

Does anybody have a clue why that happens? I could save my sessions before without any problems.

I have a similar problem.Mine crashes if I save in route builder. I have to log off and it,s back OK. I always build in session anyway so it,s no big deal.

Same issue here, but if I choose "Save As" And give the route a new name it will save ok for another five or so times. Perhaps it can't get permission in overwriting files. Strange because autosave and "Save As" work just fine.

Just a hunch here. Check your routes/sessions for Assets with Faulty/Broken/Missing dependencies.

Yes indeed I experienced the crashes after installing SP3, and pointing to that I know what assets I put on my route (no faulty or broken ones) I'd say it's all SP3's fault. But again, my IMHO, Do not hit me too hard for it.

Same problem

I have been having the same problem since installing SP3.

This is a great game when it works, but that is becoming less frequent with each new "fix".

I am so fed up with it I was going to uninstall and then a complete re-install, but the unistall file is corrupt so that is going to be a pain as well.

I am also getting strange error messages, when starting Trainz, but I don´t know what they mean. It just all goes by to fast to read anything.

It´s always the last third entrys when in dos-mode. That it is unable to load something.

How can I solve this?

Kennyw, I'm on my third installation. I used the add/remove programs in control panel. My third time seems to be the charm though, as it does seem to be working acceptably. Here's what I did (from build 42203)
Right before I went to bed, I disconnected the internet and turned off my antivirus program, then launched the patch.
The next morning, I launched CM and performed an extended database repair.
I then closed CM and performed a drive defrag.
I then ran another EDR, then closed again.
Re-launched Trainz, and all seems good thus far.

Using "save as..." in Surveyor hasn't crashed yet. (KOW)

And this is a minimum spec machine;
XP Pro SP3
Intel core 2 duo
2Gig RAM
Nvidea 8600 GTS

It's apparently just a really touchy program. *cough Auran cough*

Add my name to the list of folks experiencing problems when saving. Does this mean we are going to need an SP4:'( ?

When you save your route, tick the ''do not save session'' and it will not crash anymore till .....sp4.

Dear Rail4Pete, and what if we made some object that require saving to a session (Switchesm signals) What then, should we redo their configuration each time the game starts?

Crashing while saving happened to me three times in a row today which is the first time I've used 2010 since applying SP3. It doesn't appear to happen if you choose 'Save As' but it sure does when just 'saving'.

I know I don't have any problematic content either.

Are you waiting for the program to completely exit before shutting down the computer?

If not, this can corrupt the program and cause problems later on. I found that if I wait at least 10 minutes after closing TS2010, then I'm all set.

Running the program with the command windows open (setting under development tab), allows me to know when it's safe to shutdown.

Yes, I do both. I left the computer running in a 'frozen' state all night and it was still frozen the next morning so that just doesn't work. When I finally killed the program and restarted it, the changes I was trying to save had, in fact, been saved. This says that the routines that actually do the save are completing, but the recovery after that is lacking.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but successive service pack seem to be doing more to make the program fragile than robust.
