Derailment-MvVeytown Pa-Not Funny

Derailment: McVeytown Pa Wednesday night (Dec 2nd) -All rail traffic Harrisburg-Pittsburgh re-routed over the single tracked NBER Willimsport-Tyrone line, and NY/VA lines
http://wearecentralpa.com/content/video/?cid=136441

The video shows the installation of prefabricated panel tracks, and a specialized car lifting machine. Cars with broken couplers and missing draft gear are chained together, and towed at low speed to Altoona for repair. Temporary tracks were quickly put into service right through the derailment site...and the line is now back in full operation.

Cause of derailment: I think the train fell off the track...I will keep you updated on exact causes.
The train was reported to be doing 55mph, when it went into full emergency braking, Eastbound bound for Allentown.

If you can get some more photos showing the entire bridge and some basic dimensions I can make it for Trainz (with and/or without the booboo, lol).

Why are we seeing the same old photo 4 times, here ?

Oh...that's because of people "quoting" photos ...over, and over, again

I seem to remember the photo in the newspaper long ago...It was a flash flood, during a downpour, and he train had stopped on the bridge because the crew looked back noticed the bridge sagging, and giving way...The highly alert crew stopped immediately, so as to prevent the train from further falling into the river. I cant read the hazmat placard nor read the contents stenciled on the tank car...but it looks familiar...and a possibly a dangerous product...ammonia possibly ?

I would guess that the girder on the right goes on for mabie 1 or 2 more spans, then changes into what you see on the far left.

If this was in Texas, any one know what bridge this is, where this was and what UP line it was on?

Talk about a close call!!!

The Story:

After a deadly (6 killed) train accident in Croatia, a small rescue vehicle with crane being sent to the site derails along the same stretch of track. Prior to the vehicle being sent, it was thought the derailment was driver error. It was later discovered that a flame retardant (ironically enough the rescue vehicle had been spraying it) placed on the tracks to protect the wooden sleepers, had left an oily residue on the railheads themselves. The accident happened when the first train lost its brakes.

He almost made it. (note: this one, was the engineer's fault. He ignored an order to slow down)
