Frustrations with Trainz 12

Dear All

I have found the Trainz12 software the hardest I have ever used fo any application. Making a relational database is a doddle compared with this. The trainz software is so un-intuitive that it is almost unusable. The simplest notion of driving a train of my choice from Peterborough to Doncaster seems impossible to set up.

Last night I drove from King's Cross to Peterborough and saved where I was. Started to drive again, but no controls would work. Tried a new train, but could not get it to go North, only South. Gave up in disgust.

I have MSTS (from Kuju). While the graphics are not as good, it is so much easier to use. I am not a computer programmer; all I want is a train to drive.

Or I will go back to my aeroplane. FS9 is a doddle!

May be I am pig ignorant!

MSTS is easier?:eek:

Try making a layout.

Still, I know what you mean and sympathize (sp?) with you.

But then I have never bothered with scenarios or what ever they are called.

MSTS is just plane out of date Building a route is worse then playing TRS 12 you don't wont to know how maney HDs i took the hammer to becuse of msts.

ok so it was 2
stell money down the toilet.

By me saying this I mean it don't matter wich game you get there all ways going be a past that likes to drive you nuts. think of it this way the power botter will end it and you can go out side. I'm not trying to be sraced its the plan turth.:cool:

stay with us TRS guys and we'll try to help you out. most of us have beeen here for years. ;)

Trainz takes a little time to get used but once you do you will never go back. I rarely drive the trains, I like building routes but I'd be happy to try and help with any questions, just post here or send me a private message and I will help you to the best of my ability. :)

I have never had the problem of restarting a saved route with problems, that puzzles me. But the only route in trainz 12 I drive is the mojave sub but that shouldn't make a difference.

I shall take this post as a challenge to create a session.

You wish to drive a train from Peterborough to Doncaster, passenger I assume?

As a North Carolina Yank who wouldn't know his way around the UK rail system I created a quickie session to run an AI train from Peterborough to Doncaster. It didn't take too long.

But anyway, I might be able to help you with driving a passenger train along the route you mentioned. I just have a few questions:

1: Does your computer perform well with the ECML route? There is no point in me doing a session if your computer has a hard time with the built-in ECML sessions.

2: What time of day would you like to do the driving?

3: What time of year ie date or season?

4: What weather conditions do you want?

5: What particular passenger train consist do you wish to drive? Locomotives and passenger cars must be on the DLS or better yet built-in.

6: Will it be a non-stop drive or which stations do you wish to stop at?

I can set up stops at stations but particular platforms might be difficult without screenshots.

But anyway, I'm willing to take a swing at it.

I ran my first session test run, took around 1 hour Peterborough to Doncaster as a straight through non-stop run. All junctions set, driving in-cab.

Factor in some time stopping at each station, I don't know, add some more time.

Add in some AI traffic (I'm thinking for this session like 10 trains) and some misc static rolling stock.

Add in a basic HTML schedule what to do thingy and this could be a half way decent session.

I'm still thinking about it.

Many thanks for that. In reply to your questions:
1. My computer handles ECML well.
2. I want to leave Peterborough, platform 4, at 11.00;
3. Any Summer month;
4. Clear dry weather;
5. The BR HST consist (Class 43 either end, TF, TF, TF, TRUK, TS, TS, TS, TS, TS) - TF = trailer first; TRUK = trailer refreshment unclassified kitchen; TS = trailer second - these are abbreviations still used by railways staff.
6. I want to stop at: Grantham, Newark, Doncaster, York, Darlington, and Newcastle.

Thanks for your help.

I took a couple days off from Trainz.

As far as consist goes:

BR Class 43 HST Intercity,<kuid:53584:14>
BR HST MK3 TS,<kuid:-1:100062>
BR HST MK3 TF,<kuid:-1:100058>

I couldn't find a TRUK on the DLS, if you have a KUID let me know.

Well, I'm still working on it.

Adding AI traffic is what is stretching this thing out.

Another factor is the fact that none of the stations in this session are interactive so I'm using junctions (triggered by trains) to change signal aspects near the stations as a means to indicate proximity to the platforms the player will stop at.

But so far it's becoming quite a fun session to run.

I think I have worked out all the major bugs.

Still need to add a few more AI trains and some static rolling stock to make it look cool.

Then with some HTML (session instructions and pop-up windows) it will be a quality session.

Sorry it's taking longer then I first thought, but I decided to make this my best (to date) session ever.
