frustrations with 2012

Cant seem to find way to preserve train orders from one session to the next. Thought a session would only concern itself with trains on the route and their orders but discovered after deleting previous session that route tracks also were deleted leaving the trains resting on ballast with no tracks. Two days work blown. Don't understand layer concept. Dont understand why Autosave should duplicate itself, surely two files with same name should be flagged for attention. Don't understand why in driver a station is suspended mid air while in build it returns to proper placement. I am rapidly falling out of love with Trainz 2012 and unlikely to purchase future versions if one cannot build a route, test it and decorate it without being frustrated by a less than intuitive methods learned from previous versions.

The trouble may not be with TS12 itself, but with the content/rule.
I have learned that some data for content is stored in the session, while some is stored in the route. It is frustrating, especially when you start to understand how the game works, yet some assets still do not follow the rules.

IMO, Trainz needs to be completely rebuilt, from the ground up. But that is prohibitive, as it would be difficult (and probably result in poorly integrated assets) to get older content to work on the new game.
I'm waiting to see what happens with "open rails", but so far not much.
Trainz is still my favorite game, but I spend most of my time in Surveyor.

Good luck

I agree that building Trainz from ground up would be out of the question. What I do expect is improvement from one version to the next. The AI in the 2012 version has seen an improvement over older versions in my opinion. What has not improved is identical assets with different names. When I first got 2012 a few days ago, the first thing I did was to find all the track versions and lay them out beside each other. I saw duplicates and inspected them for any visual difference and found none. You would think this would be also done by the people in charge of the program before they released this version. I have as yet to do this for other categories of assets but expect to find the same. There are assets missing from older versions, so they have opened the door to a lack of backward compatibility that may have been a concept that blocked deleting of identical assets with different names. The volume of assets is a selling point but it does make finding a good fit for your layout a more time consuming process, surely we do not need more names for a given asset.

To me identical assets with different names does not confuse as much as different assets with the same name.

Just my penny worth,
