Frisco 1522 in TS2010

Not keeping up with current events, I WAS working on getting the Frisco 1522 to work in Trainz 12, I am NO LONGER working on getting the Frisco 1522 to work in Trainz 12, because I'm finished, it NOW DOES work in Trainz 12 with no errors, warnings, or script bugs.

"There is a FEC model on the DLS, made by timetraveler."

The DLS is currently down, I'm getting unable to contact planet auran, and after restarting content mangler I'm getting that incorrect username and password nonsense. FYI for those who see that, DON'T try to fix it, it will fix itself when they jiggle the spark plug wires to get the download station running again.

Anyway, when it does come back up, procedure is the same for Euphod's reskins of the same model;

1. Clone 297 Frisco 1522 4-8-2 Mountain Type,<kuid:522774:100445>
2. Open for edit in Explorer.
3. Open the \297 frisco 1522 4_8_2 mountain type\frisco_1522_4-8-2_mountain_body folder.
4. Open FEC 813 4-8-2 mountain,<kuid:104181:1001> for edit in explorer.
5. Open \FEC 813 4-8-2 mountain\frisco_1522_4-8-2_mountain_body folder.
6. Select all the BMP and TGA files in that folder, copy.
7. Switch to the \297 frisco 1522 4_8_2 mountain type\frisco_1522_4-8-2_mountain_body folder, paste, yes to overwrites.
8. Go up one folder, edit the config.txt in notepad. Find the username "297 Frisco 1522 4-8-2 Mountain Type" and change the name to something else. Save and exit.
9. Back to content manager, edit, commit.

It ain't rocket science kids, if I can so it any other idiot should be able to, I'm really not that smart.

hello this is great!

Some friends were fiddling with the old 1522 trying to get it working in TS12, I got interested and did some tinkering.

Original runs only in DCC mode so I changed to the C-41 engine spec, original did not have a cabview so I added my infamous 297 lighted big steam interior.

While fiddling with the attachment trying to get it in the right place, I added a kind of generic boiler to the cab shell.

After that added some a.outsideview attachments to the 1522 mesh.

Little less trial and error than the freightcar brakeman's view project, I placed the loco on the tracks, then added a standing man figure, moving it around and up and down to get an idea of where the eye level would be before creating the attachment points.

Hi engineerkenny well this is great because on the last frisco the config file would when it would start downloading it would say searching..... searching.... idle and would not download so this is great and i also found it just before what a quinsiudence!

Little tip on forum etiquette - when you're quoting someone, edit the quote to remove the pictures, saves bandwidth. Also you don't have to "Reply With Quote" on everything, unless you have a special reason to quote a previous post just click on "Reply" instead of "Reply With Quote".

Not my problem, up to you to update all YOUR reskins. :hehe: What I would suggest, make a single clone of mine, edit in explorer and copy that folder to a temp folder (I have one on my desktop I use just for this). Then Create new versions on all yours, open for edit, edit config, copy KUID number and paste in a notepad text file. Delete everything, copy everything from the temp folder in, then edit the config file to change the username, description, and KUID number back to what it was.

I hate doing all that batch processing, and found that's the quickest way to do it without screwing something up. Trying to copy and paste from the update to the config file of one of the originals I invariably miss something.

For further assistance give a shout, STOPVALVE 554 out.

Hee-hee, I crack myself up! :hehe: Seriously, Parker, if you can get permission from timetraveller to use his textures, I'll do the copying and pasting for you, but it really truly is not that hard to learn reskinning simply by jumping in and trying it. You might have to spend some money, the freeware image editors you download are usually not as powerful and easy to learn as the payware stuff. I bought Paint Shop Pro 7 ten years ago, best $100 bucks I ever spent.

That was for the other user, not for me. I know Trainz very well, and I have a copy of CS2.

And by the way, I've reskinned many things.

Here's a example.

Oh yeah, wrong guy. I knew you changed your user name, forgot what you changed it to. This being the screenshot forum I'll have to post more screenies, at the moment imageshack and the latest firefox update are duking it out over something, I keep getting random javascript errors when trying to add imageshack links.

Thanks for the instructions. I was able to finally get a FEC 4-8-2. I replaced the '297' with '412' and downloaded the tender for the original FEC 4-8-2 and also added '412' to the name. If I can get timetraveler and permission from you, I'll release my version of the FEC 4-8-2. To allow for the capability of replicating the different series of whistles used by the railroads (three short whistles for backing up, one short whistle for stopping, etc.), I've replaced it with the same whistle that is used on SubPar productions' USRA locomotives, which is the sound of Southern 2-8-2 #4501 blowing its whistle. Also I'm considering adding ARN (Automatic Running Numbers) to your locomotives that do not have a number that it already has when you download it. I hadn't decided what numbers to use on them. Reguardless of how many different models of the same locomotive and the same roadname (i.e. the amount of weathering), I'll still use the same range of numbers. If you give me permission on those, I'll get on it when I have the time.

Permission granted

FYI everything I upload is free to clone, modify, mangle, fold into weird shapes and wear as a hat if desired. For me the whole point of joining a trainsim community is the same as joining a model railroad club, the idea is to pool a bunch of different talents together and enhance the experience in a way that no one person working alone could ever achieve. Copyrights on freeware are silly, counterproductive, and usually only serve to inflate the self-importance of the creator. The original idea behind freeware was to get different people working on improving previous work, these days it's been relabeled "open source". Since we have so many self appointed copyright police and lawyer wannabees here I guess I gotta start adding a license to everything that says "Open Source, no permission needed to do whatever you want, if I thought it was worth copyrighting I'd make it payware". In most communities the absence of any kind of EULA is assumed to be blanket permission, but the Trainz community has a bunch of criminals illegally practicing law without a license who insist that you have to assume the most restrictive EULA, so I guess the burden is on those who aren't interesting in sillyassed restrictions to spell out that there are no restrictions. BTW, did I get permission from TheCowboy to do this update? Unless you have a badge and a warrant, it's nobody's damn business.

Permission granted, permission granted, permission granted, reskin and/or make your own modifications, build on my work and make it better for everybody, that's the whole point of sharing in the first place - someone wants fame and glory and fawning adoration they should go on American Idol instead of making addons for PC games.

"man I wish I had that engine problem is I never worked with getting a train to work good at all in the game."

Gotta read what was written before - you don't need to do anything to get these working, just download them and they'll work out of the box.

Well for some reason the SD9's won't download for some reason. I'll do some research and see if there's anything else I could modify.

Nothing is downloading at the moment, the download station is busticated. Probably have to wait til tommorrow for them to fix it since they're off on holiday, wrestling with crocagators in the outback and drinking Fosters or whatever Aussies do when they're on holiday.

I ask for permission before I upload my versions of others products because I don't want some message saying something like: 'You should remove this from the Download Station. You should have asked me before you uploaded my version of my product!' I don't want to have that happen to me. That is the reason why I ask before uploading.

I decided to gamble and see if I could do the same thing as I did to the 297 Frisco 4-8-2 to the 297 Frisco tender, so that I won't have to ask timetraveler for permission to upload it along with my version of your mountain. The test was successful and now, since you have given me permission, I'll upload it after I test it on a route I'm working on and see how it performs.

Cool! Doing your own painting isn't really that hard if you have a decent image editing program, and you get your money's worth. I bought Corel draw 4 with photopaint in 93, used it until the new long filenames made it too clumsy then bought Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 in 2001, which still does everything I need. Funny thing is Corel owns Paint Shop now, you can still download a free trial version;

EDIT: Removed link. Much as I love PSP7, everything has changed with PSP X4. First problem is wanting to install a google toolbar by default, gotta check the fine print to make sure that box is UNchecked. Unprofessional when you're trying to sell something to toss in fluffware that nobody really needs.

Second problem, the install doesn't offer the option, it just changes your registry to reset all the Open With for image files so you have to go back and manually set them back the way you want.

Third and most serious, you get a new TSR called Protexis Licensing V2 in your system services, no option and no warning.

So if you're looking for an image editing program I'd look elsewhere, if my house was on fire I wouldn't buy an extinguisher from companies that pull that kind of crap.

You guys have got me thinking I might want to get into reskinin. Maybe just to change numbers and logos on locos. What software would you guys recomment that would cost me something around $0?
