Frightening issue with surveyor...

Now T:ANE I can get into
I went to boot up my layout last night, and discovered a single blank baseboard.

Luckily, I had an AUTOSAVE from which I was able to recover it.

What could have caused this to happen?

The only variable that comes to mind is that when I made my initial discovery, I had booted up Trainz itself rather than launching Surveyor via Content Manager.

This has never been an issue before, though.

We really need a little more information - there are three possibilities that come to mind.

Surveyor has somehow restored a backup of the original blank route. This happened to me a few years ago in an older version when I made the mistake of extracting the Transdem data into the Trainz User folder. It now goes on a separate drive well away from anywhere the programme might look. Of course if you just set up the route within Trainz itself, that won't be the case.

Your route may have corrupted on trying to save, this could happen if out of memory. Whichever version you're working in, under Options in the launcher window check to see if backups are enabled. The default for this is set at 7, a somewhat hapless choice by N3V as this will gobble up your hard drive space in no time, leaving insufficient free for swap files and virtual memory. This was discussed in a recent thread about TANE, but the issue also affects TS12 and AFAIK TS2010.

Something might have gone wrong with layers. There's some who will hold forth on that as being the case when if you don't bother using layers, unlikely to be so.

It happened again.

This time when I went to boot up the route in Surveyor, I noticed that Content Manager committed a mysterious "New Asset" that it listed me as the creator of.
