Cascaderailroad is having problems connecting to the N3V Forums. On an Ipad I was previously able to get on the Forums, now the Ipad connection fails and times out. The Laptop has not been able to connect to the Forums ever since the N3V Server maintenance took place last month. Every other website in the world works on both my laptop, and my Ipad, except for the My Trainz/ Forum button. All the other buttons work on the My Trainz sites, except for the My Trainz/Forum button. All the buttons worl on the Planet Auran site and Download station, except the "Forum' button does not connect, and times out: Server Is Unavailable", "Unknown Server Host" ... something is seriously wrong with the site ! I have all antivirus programs turned of, as well as turning off Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and Windows UAC ... and still only the "Forum" buttons do not connect with the N3V Server, and the webpage times out.

I agree with Mike. I suggest clearing your the cached information in your browser whichever one you are using. This is good practice anyway as it removes stale data and should be done automatically periodically, but sometimes it needs a manual clear.

This could also be a network hardware problem, such as the network adapter in the computer its self or even the cable.. I have cats and they love cables, and I found out the hard way a long time ago that you need to check those things to even when you wouldn't expect it. One of my cats had a fun chew of my network cable and I was getting terrible connections. I didn't notice until I moved my computer to clean up the dust behind it and found munched wires. So he needs to check for activity - there will be blinking lights, usually yellow and green flickering. If only one light is blinking then there's a problem. He could also check on his modem too. If he's connected and show no activity then the adapter or cable is hosed, or even the cable/DSL modem is hosed.

Now, if it's malware that can be tricky, and everything else checks fine. This can cause issues even after an install if he did not do a completely fresh install, meaning format the disks and put in fresh everything including Windows 7. It's more painful, but it removes the chances that the remaining malware bits are still blocking his network connection.

It's so difficult, really, to troubleshoot this kind of thing through a forum like this... I hope my suggestions help.

What are the other things he can't do?

When WIndows 7 was installed did you transfer user settings using the transfer wizard, or did you re-create the user settings from scratch?

i am finally able to connect on an Apple IPad, but I again expect to have the forums server time out and disconnect

I have no cash as I checked my wallet and only moths flew out

i delete all my recent places, browsing history and stuff in Internet Options/Tools, I am guessing that is my cache ? ? ?

Google search is even having problems creating a cached snapshot image of My Trainz/Forum button webpage.

All the sites worldwide on the Innerwebs connect with lightning speed, and only the My Trainz/Forums buttons, and all N3V/Forums buttons do not work on any of their sites.

Good to see you back... You have moths? Wow, that's more than I have in mine. I opened mine up and found only a few black ants.

This sounds like a corrupted browser or IP cache

Have you tried other browsers such as Chrome or Firefox? Doing this will rule out anything else.

You might also want to clear your DNS cache on your PC. You do this through a command prompt.

For Windows Vista and up, you need to open a command prompt as administrator.

At the command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter.

There will be a pause and then the prompt will reappear. This might do it.

There are utilities you can run too that will definitely clear up registry grossness and old stuff that Windows' basic tools don't clear up. Check out CC-Cleaner, there's a free version available (not a trial). at Pirasoft.com www.piraform.com

Check the boxes for all the internet cache and temporary files, you don't need to check the boxes for clearing system icons, etc...

Once that's done run the analyze, then Run to clear it.

After that run the registry cleaner button. You'll be prompted for a backup.

If ALL other sites connect at "lightning" speed but no connection to here, perhaps there is a message in there. LOL Seriously, that seems a bit too specific a bug. Like something is detecting an attempt to connect to this forum and blocks it while letting all other connections through.

This is a bit left field, but for such a very specific site issue then perhaps you are either blocked or blacklisted. This can happen IF this site implements blocking or subscribes to a blacklist and if your IP address has got onto a blacklist. Note that it is quite easy to get onto a blocked list without being involved in spam at all.

I have no idea whether or not this site implements blocking. There are blacklist sites you can check. How you get a new IP address depends on your IP.

Can I suggest the moths were actually trying to keep warm? :D

You're not running through a proxy server or anything by any chance that might be preventing access?

Another idea, try a different DNS server rather than whatever the ISP uses. OpenDNS or Googles DNS both work well.
