Freight trains on the move at HHK

SUBWAY125

F40PH Lover!
Yesterday, me and my dad were at the pool when we heard an NS K5LAR24, which is rare on a weekend, so we went to Ho-Ho-Kus. After an hour, I heard this really loud and booming K5LA coming from Waldwick/Suffern/Port Jervis/BInghampton and at first I thought it was a cab car, but it was an NS GP38-2 with four grain cars, which caught me off guard because rarely freight trains run south of Suffern and onto the mainline/bergen county line.

Any reports on a new industry/farm opening up???

NS GP38-2 #5610 leading
NS GP38-2 #5614 trailing

That's cool, dude. I'm somewhat familiar with the area, although I haven't been through there in quite some time.

Were these definitely grain hoppers, or just cylindrical hoppers? The reason I ask is there are plastics manufacturers in that side of NJ that would require pellets for operation. Perhaps they were expecting a delivery that day when you saw the train.

I think they were cylindrical hoppers, but I'm not sure. Maybe it was headed for Paterson. btw, you should go to Ho-Ho-Kus soon!:)
