We were discussing this on British Trainz, at least now there is an official comment on the problem.
Photopic was for me a very good resource, a lot of very good railway stuff looks to have been, in many cases, possibly have been lost. Got a lot of dead links to stuff now........

Something similar happened a while back but they resurfaced on that occasion, doesn't look too hopeful this time though.

As an aside I can see similar problems maybe occurring with the "Cloud" as in people relying on on-line storage only.

Thats quite interesting, he's said its a "legal issue", so does that mean they've been served with a patent notice? Or some sort of notice from the Department of Trading Standards? Network Rail complaints? Property owner complaints? (I thought the last 2 were not the responsibility of "Snappy Designs Ltd.", but with the user, right?

Although, can we authenticate the resource? Either way, whatever the problem is, I think the company will be in dire trouble after this, as Fotopic would probably cripple the company with refunds for down time and the fact that the company would of lost their entire customer base.

As a further aside, I have a real problem with any data storage strategy that combines the words "rely" and "only" in the same sentence.

Says liquidation on one of the links, plus the name of the appointed receiver, that would indicate beyond dire trouble.

I saw that much later, but you then got the problem of the fact that when another company takes it over, customers are not in my opinion, going to have a lot of faith in it. So, I think either way, fotopic is dead for good but I maybe wrong.

I think you may be right, those who have got backups are already looking elsewhere and I doubt whoever owns the servers is going to waste valuable space they can rent out to keep hold of all those photo's for very long, if they haven't deleted them already.

Fotopic no longer trading

Dear Fotopic Users

Fotopic and its parent company Snappy Designs Ltd are no longer trading.
Discussions are in progress with a new team to rescue part of its service and the images.

The important points to note:

1. The images that have been uploaded to the Fotopic servers are safe.
Our aim is to find a migration path to a new service with similar or better functionality
than Fotopic and a method for users to export their existing images.
2. We cannot give you a date for this just yet – please subscribe to our newsletter to be updated.
3. Please understand that we cannot answer specific queries at this time, but will be able to
give more information once we are live with a new service.
Thank you for your understanding.

Point 1 may or seems to contradict others about not loosing pictures.
