Forum Etiquette Tips

PerRock

Moderator - Read the CoC!
I have decided it is time to make up a set of tips which are aimed at smoothing over community relations here. These are all suggestions; no one is forcing you to read them or even follow them. There first one however is required (not by me but by Auran).

**MAKE SURE YOU ABIDE BY THE CODE OF CONDUCT(CoC).

General

*Try to be polite and use proper English (or the native language of that category). The default language for the majority of the board is English.
*Signature images cannot be taller than 100px, wider than 800px, and be more than 30KB. This is per the Auran CoC #18.
*If you find a thread or post that violates the CoC; use the Report button (
report.gif
) located at the top of each post.
*This is an international forum. We do not discriminate, judge, etc people based on color, religion, political preference, disability, etc; as per the CoC #14.

New Threads
*Before starting a new post; use the search feature at the top of the page, to see if there isn't already a thread on your topic. See Bumping and Searching below.
*Understand that this is an International community and it may take several days for someone to reply to your thread. Not everyone is online 24/7.
*Keep your new threads in the correct forum section. Screenshots go in the screenshot forum, help goes in the help forum, etc.

Bumping
*When bumping a thread make sure you read it first to ensure that what you are asking or commenting on hasn't already be covered in it.

Replying
*Make your replies on topic. If the thread is about an error in CMP; don't ask stuff in it about some route a poster is working on.
*Personal correspondence between you and someone should take place in a PM not in someones thread.

Quoting
*Be kind and try not to quote screenshots. The only exception to this is when the original poster has posted a collection of screenshots and you are asking about only one.

Screenshots
*Remember to adhere to the CoC: Screenshots cannot exceed 800x600 outside of the Screenshots forum (CoC #18)
*When Starting a thread about screenshots it is considered good etiquette to start the thread off with a screenshot.

Searching
~~To be done on later~~

I will continue to update this as time goes on.

Peter,

Best of luck !
It is totally up to the Mods , and they appear to be overtaxed ?

Thank you, Peter!!

I think this is sticky-worthy, if there was a moderator who was willing to indulge me... ;)

More suggested topics...

-The Ignore List
-Private Messaging (which I guess goes hand-in-hand with Waffling)

Great jorb so far!

Great,

Could I add a couple moree?

Please remember that other members of the Forum can only see your post - they don't know you. It isn't possible to see if you're 10 years' old, have dyslexia, or any other characteristics. If it will help us understand your point better, you can tell us.

Last point!
The Forum has the great advantage that I can't see if you are red/green/blue etc - nor can I tell which nationality/background you are.
This means that it's easy to be not prejudiced - but I must remember that my humour isn't yours' - and it's very easy to write stuff (in jest) that can be taken as insulting/thoughtless.
Use Smileys to help!:)

Thanks,

colin

That is definatly a good point about the races. someone (which will not be named) was out of control calling people raicst. We cannot tell what race you are since this is a forum. I want to make it clear that no one nos what you look like until you tell them and dont make false assumptions.

Thank you

Waffling; in the CoC, I tried to cover it lightly (see replying)
Ignore List; I'll consider it.
PM; already there, see replying as well.

Discrimination added.

Could you be so kind and remove the username in your post. I don't want this thread to end up being a place of name calling.

Funny you mention that, in reality, we don't know if you are black or white, red or brown, English or French. To be honest, we couldn't give a damm. On the forums, we can't tell anything.

Now, I am a redhead, from West Sussex, speaking a "posh" english accent that is around 6ft 2in with slim (I think average actually) build, studying at the University of Portsmouth. Some know this already anyway, would you if you were looking at my post?

The old saying of "don't judge a book by it's cover" is applicable here and if you do what one poster did, mention we were being racist and we have no idea who he was anyway. Although posts tell a lot about you, they hide a lot more.

I hope this is interest to some, although, I do confess, some do have mental ideas in our head of who we are dealing with;
"u now, i dnt (swearword) wot u tink" gives the impression to me, that you are a generic "chav".
