fishlips DEM's

In CMP, change the search filter to Author:fishlipsatwork. You should get a bunch of his DEMs. (eg, Bronx East, NEC NJ, Providence)

Fishy's site has been in decline for quite some time, but has been completely gone for a month or so at least. I went looking to see if he had something I wanted and was sad to see the last remnants of it at last sunk into the ether.

GAURC closed a few weeks ago, details here.

Most (but not all) of Fishy's HOG/DEM routes are on the DLS...

I may be telling you something you already know, but if you're looking for a particular location you might try searching the DLS for smooz. He also created a number of DEM/HOG routes.

Thanks guys! I have found a bunch of his DEM's on DLS!
Thanks again!

Is there anywhere I can get the HOG lines (red, blue textures for road/track)? I know you used to be able to get them off of fish's site. Any help would be great thanks!

Not all of them Dermmy, only the small ones is at DLS. We have all the others safely stored. I need to find a way and a place to make them available to the public again.
That is what i promised Paul Haglund i would do, and i intend to keep my promise.

Gaurc is shut down, so thats not an option.

Check again - the entire HOG set of 72 textures HOG00 to HOG71 (9:21000 - 9:21071) are on the DLS searchable by kuid or name=HOG or username=tolaris.

@ maverickmc - CM is utterly unreliable as a DLS search tool. Search the black pages, you'll find them...

Check again - HOG19 and HOG66 are not on the black pages. <kuid:9:21019> and <kuid:9:21066> cannot be found.

I profoundly apologize for any offense caused by failing to mention that two textures UTTERLY IRRELEVANT TO THE QUESTION AT HAND were omitted from my response. 9:21019 is not even in the TIGER data set and 21066 is a hot magenta pink which represents none of road, rail, waterway, power grid or political boundaries which is all that is needed for 99.9% of HOG generated maps.

The fact that the DLS has everything needed to meaningfully view Fishy's maps (or any other HOG created 'blank terrain' route) was the point of the post..

If they're not needed anywhere, why do they show up as dependencies on the majority of HOG-generated maps?

I guess i have to apologize a bit too:hehe:.
I didnt read all the posts above before replying. I simply guessed that you guys talked about Paul's DEM Terrainz,Not the HOG, and failed bad.....

*sigh*

HOG can generate a bare terrain map using either TIGER data or you can use any other image you want - a map, satellite imagery, whatever.

HOG uses one of two possible texture sets when generating a map. One texture set is exclusively for TIGER data, the other texture set is used for all alternate images.

The question in this thread relates to being able to view HOG maps created using TIGER data.

One of your 'missing' textures is from the TIGER set but it is a colour I have never seen used in any map. I'm not saying it was never used, I'm not saying it's use is impossible, what I AM saying is that it is used so seldom and represents a data set so irrelevant to route creation that it just doesn't matter. I create all my routes using TIGER/HOG data and that colour is not even installed on my system. It never was right back to TRS04. It was possibly missing from Fishy's set because that's where my set came from. The DLS set is the old TS10 built-in set which went to the DLS when legacy content got relegated from TS12. The TS10 built-in set was included so that (a) built-in routes using HOG/TIGER data could be included and (b) so that HOG/TIGER created maps could be viewed in-game. Why wan't that texture included? Because it WASN'T a missing dependency from any such map.

Your other 'missing' texture is from the non-TIGER set. It's presence or absence is irrelevant to this discussion. In addition the only possible way it could crop up in a TIGER route is if the route-creator had the wrong data set loaded (I've done it myself) but since the non-TIGER set (a) overwrites the base grid and (b) shows rail lines the same colour as roads (or rivers, I forget) the error is immediately obvious and since a TRAINZ route without a visible grid and with confusing rail layout is pretty much useless to a route-builder the thing would never get released. That's why TransDEM beats HOG into a cocked hat for 'other' image routes. HOG is a brilliant utility and I wouldn't be without it for TIGER maps, but it is way less useful for a non-TIGER route. In fact I'm not sure I've ever seen one. If this dependency shows as missing from a TIGER map it's because the route-creator goofed.
