DO you have to buy one of these tickets 3, or 6 , or 12 months to download stuff such as Loco's / wagons and carriages? Are you charged additionally then for each loco or wagon etc that you download?

Hi,

You do NOT have to buy a First Class Ticket (FCT) to download stuff with version 2009 and up. With older versions you do need one. Keep in mind that without a FCT you are limited to 100mb/day at a speed of 5kb/sec. A FCT will remove both caps.

Btw, there is also a life-time FCT which is, in the long run, the least $/day.

No it's not needed if you have a supported version of trainz, but if you intend on downloading a lot of assets @5 kbps it takes a long long time, and your connection will maybe disconnect part way through by means or boredom.
Well worth it in my opinion for the few times I use it. No additional charge.
If you download from external sites for eg jointed rail/tpr you don't need it.

You can buy a 1 year FCT and it costs @ 0.06 cents per day.

You can keep it unactivated, for later activation.

I am unsure if you can stockpile 2-3, or more, One year FTC, and keep them unactivated ?

Also, reference the 2nd part of your question - once you have an FCT, ALL items on the DownLoad Station (DLS) are free. Thousands of them.
Don't be confused by the DownLoadable Content (DLC) - these are payware.

If you want to DL any more than one or two assets every now and then, get the FCT. It is good for your sanity! Waiting for DL without the FCT is painful - very painful!
If you get it when it's on sale, you save about $5USD, and as was said earlier, you can buy one before your current FCT runs out. Just don't activate until you need it.
