Firefox App: No Squint

I am using the Firefox App: "No Squint", and it is the best thing, since they sliced and bagged white bread.

Who else uses this App, or other Apps, when reading the Trainz Forum ?

I make my text black, and the background color a medium/dark gray.

"Color That Site" App is also good

Try these settings:

110% full zoom
115% text zoom
Black text
Gray background
Black unvisited
Black visited
Global: Full Page Zoom images and text
Global: same colors and zooms as above
Toggle the color of pages: Off

Customize toolbar buttons:

zoom out
zoom in

When the Forum color was changed some months ago, I almost went blind, from looking at the light powder puff blue text, and non-black, gray type.
I started pushing Firefox: No-Squint way back then ... but so many, many, people, just adored the new fangled, non black type, blinding forum colors, and many people just poo-pooed all my suggestions on how to re-color the blinding Forum colors.

Well you've got me in your corner now, though I don't bother with IE explorers. I put it on the other night and after fiddling with it, immediately grabbed the wife's arm and bragged it up to her! My solution is a bit different. Gross Zoom down to 85% (shrinks the graphics, especially margins stuff width fields like for example, the search bar and links area in Wikipedia at screen left. Then boost general text to 155%, which fills in and uses up that newly unwasted graphics elements area, giving a net longer line in larger type. Far more data, far less junk 'noise' too. Of course the CTRL-Roll lets me fine adjust from there still.

My background is set for a semidark shade of yellow, other than my preferred 'wheat'. Not sure I can get used to 'grey' like yours, but this is working great for me! Thanks very much indeedy! I want to inquire whether there is a way to customize their default colors ala the way you can the Windows Desk Top colors in a scheme. I found most of the background options are still on the bright side, excepting your gray solution. A pastel late summer green-yellow-brown grass texture would be near ideal, I think. Standard Wheat will do in a pinch.

The only down side is it's washing out colors in a page like this: ( HTML/CSS standard Colors ) where you want to see such. I tried to set an exception on that, but may have to revert to Native and customize the skin for Wikipedia... there are a lot of maps legends and color coded indexes I'm liable to want to see browsing history articles and the like there. I intend to play around more on that site and see what options will work, but have to do that when I can reinitialize the browser cache. (I've open tabs/have been editing the Wikibook in the middle of all this, so dumping the cache is NOT a good idea until I complete those.) In a pinch, I can block No Squint there, and customize the skin using Wikimedia technology for a better mix of solutions.

Well, CCRR, I'm enjoying the video musak, but I've run into a problem with No Squint. I'm most sites visited NOT able to view images... e.g. any links here: http://lariverrailroads.com/freight_car.html

Seems the law of unintended consequences is still alive and kicking! Got any ideas? The Site override isn't doing the job- I resized there for just 1:1 zooming (not!) <g>.

This thing needs an 'exit' or 'show natural' (unprocessed) stream or some such type toggle. // Frank

Well, as an old DOS programmer, I use anything Microsoft like most in my profession--Not at all if I can help it... It's complicated, but we all know just how often MS has played Hardball and hidden various things complicating anyone and everyone's lives and handicapping the competition. You may recall that big Federal Lawsuit a few years back. That was rooted in this, and Microsoft skated w/o being busted up as they deserved.

I just disabled the Extension so I'm back in native mode. Sniff. It was working soo well, except for pics...

So my problem seems to be Firefox or perhaps the Norton security extension or plugin or what not...

I'm going to disable Norton Vulnerability Protection and Advanced System Care Surfing Protection 1.0, and retest these three with a fresh cache. My problem may be as simple as background programs are highly restricted so the 'puter gives most priority resources to Trainz... or anything else in the foreground. Even the Extension is likely running in the background. // Frank
 
I use Firefox exclusivly.
I just installed No Squint and it is very helpful.
In order to show the above pictures I installed I.E. Tab version 4.0.
Just right-click on the tab and select 'switch rendering engines'.

I too installed the Firefox app: I.E. Tab version 4.0 and it works fantasticly for viewing problematic photos in IE view, while using Firefox.

I've no experience with either (yet). Not an MS fan, so may never find out! Having an issue with Trainz right now too, so... times the thing... ("Time, ask me for anything but more time!")

So sorry about the delay, been 'online timing' on the DLS or at Yesterdayz Trainz boards. We're working one project, about settled on and are to launch another, and have a load of other stuff going on. When you going to join? //F

This is an excellent Question, to which I may soon find out an answer. My youngest bought Dragon for me BD last fall, then promptly stole it for his Senior year course work. LOL. I 'recaptured' it last week and put it somewhere around here in the kitchen... where I've P.O.'d my Trainz Widow by using it to operate on and upgrade my computers. Right now I'm shuffling a lot of stuff around and reconfiguring HDD usages, and need to swap out the HDD in this laptop for a new bigger much faster HDD--but I'm going to experiment and see if I can gimmick windows to a more single user configuration (complicated!!!:'(), then I can settle that and some other issues I need to address. Hmmm, well, I'm seeing a number of issues with Firefox since that No Squint misadventure. Haven't had the time to re-enable things, and had to reinstall too. Then again it seems they aren't maintaining it as well as they did in years past, and the updates are possibly breaking other features along the way. Don't have the time to visit their web boards either, so may give Chrome a serious shot. Did update my IE explorer though and it's as slow as ever I remember it! //Frank
 
I do reccomend Firefox and No Squint, and I don't think I could live without it.

I use the IE tab/Firefox app, I.E. Tab version 4.0 that enables webpages to display in IE tab view with one click.

That's a comfort. Thanks. Once I get the HDD's settled, I was planning on trying No Squint again. But something went hinky, that's for sure. I did notice there was a click box and settings applet in FF to hold table elements down while zooming just text, so that's what I'm testing right now. //Frank
 
I found the Skype IM can be changed to show 12 point type, Arial Black, BOLD type ... makes it much easier to read.

Shame you can't change the Skype white background to a light gray ... as I have done on most of my sites, and applications.

Skype is the best IM tool, since they sliced and bagged white bread !

When you run Trainz windowed ... you can view Instant Messaging.

How many people run Trainz windowed ? (which can be advantageous sometimes), especially when surfing the web, the Forums, viewing maps, and Google Earth, while in surveyor.

Also running Trainz windowed lets you use Skype IM while running Trainz (does anyone use E-Mail anymore, I rarely do) !
