Finding Consists for Products

I’m trying to find an easy way to locate railcars that can carry specific cargo. Only way I’ve found so far is to add railcars in Surveyor and then looking at the properties of each. There must be a better way.

Thanks

In TRS2004, do a Windows search inside all the config.txt files for the kuid of the product. For example:
In Windows Explorer, right-click on the Downloads folder > Search...
Search for files or folders named: config.txt
Containing text: 86661:9440304
That gives you the kuid's of the rolling stock (plus the product itself and maybe a few false positives), open their config.txt files to discover their names.

Sorry, I don't know if a similar appoach is also possible in TRS2006 or TC with CMP.

Hi, something I learnt a long time ago is to go into CMP, and search for your downloaded rolling stock, and then one by one go into the config.txt for each one and type on the username line the following for example :

username "BNSF flatcar"

now type in the following ;

username "aBNSF flatcar" or "aBNSF flatcar - Steel, Lumber USA"

when you go into surveyor you can see that all rolling stock with a small letter "a" appears first at the top of the list, then b then c then d, etc, etc. You can put whatever letter you like, or even country code like US or UK or AU, and even sort them by cargo type or whatever you might find helpful to sorting thru the hundreds of wagons and locos you've got downloaded. It's perfect for locating types of specific cargo wagons straight away, without trawling thru all your downloaded stuff, and I'm sure that you can do the same with the config.txt on properties ( logs, steel coils, etc ) so they show up similarly in surveyor.

It might be a lot of work initially, I always do it when I've downloaded stuff off the DLS, but it pays dividends when it's all been done. Might not be everybody's ideal way of doing things, but it's worked for me OK.

You could use CMP to do Search Commodity and make a list of the kuids of the commodities you want to haul, then Search Category Rolling Stock to list the cars. Right click on cars of the right types (ie. tanker, box, flat, etc.) and select View Config File and scroll to see if there is a Queues section and if so, if it has any of your commodity kuids. Ain't real easy but not impossible.

Or right click on the car and select Dependencies. It will show the commodities that the rail car can haul.

But why go through all that when you can always add commodities to railcars in survayor? I have had the BNSF flat car hauling I-beams by just adding it to the 28' container queue. Just like with multi industries new you can add commodities. Just make sure you check how the car will look loaded.
