Finally ordered a new Desktop !

"second hand" with "factory" garuantee or what they name it still its second hand and has xxxx hours of usgae what kind what steady power suplu how handled etc etc .. it wil always be second hand and than very expensive for the price difference with new ones!

Why not Directx 11? Do I need to download Directx 9.0c and then upgrade to Directx 11? I'm not sure I understand.

It is possible to get a small SSD but it isn't worth it when you can 1Tb drives for that price. The amount of bays depends upon what case you have, normally they have at least 2 or more but I have seen cases with just 1 bay.

Transferring content can be done by plugging your old hard drive into your computer and copying things across or using DVD's, pen drives & external hard drives.

With regards to Windows 8, I'm running it here and have zero problems. It runs quicker and process things better than windows 7 and quite frankly, Trainz runs faster on my pc with windows 8 than it did with 7.

I personally see no point in SSD's at the moment. They are ridiculously expensive compared to hard drives for about half the memory space. Give it a few years and we will have 1tb+ SSD's which is what i'm waiting for. I have far too much stuff for SSD's and cannot be bothered with multiple ones, my 4tb Hitachi drive does just fine :)

People will probably disagree with me on the SSD's but it's a free world so I don't mind.

DX11 tesellation things are great provided you have a powerfull enough card. A high end one such as 7950 or equivalent will handle it well .DX9 is recommended though.

Before I got my SSD I read a review where somebody described the difference between an HDD and an SSD as "night and day". It was true. The first thing you notice is a lightning improvement in speed generally on your PC then you notice little things like the scratchy noise made by an HDD disappears. One thing that impressed me was, when I was searching through the 6000+ photos on my PC, that the results appeared INSTANTLY - no waiting for the green bar at the top of the screen.Its true they are expensive though prices are falling rapidly, but you get what you pay for.
 
You don't need DirectX 11 at all. Trainz, as well as many if not most games, does not benefit from it since it was not designed to. Some games even run BETTER on DX9 versus DX11.

Actually if you get the right 2.5 inch adapter you can fit 2 SSD's in one 3.5 bay and yes there is space between them, they were not supposed to be used like that by the way, but it looked like it would work without fouling any of the other bays so I tried it. A handy way of saving space, or you can stick the SSD plus adapter in the unused these days floppy bays which all cases still seem to have. Not any problem here as all my cases have 5 HD bays anyway.

An SSD makes an insane difference when playing Trainz. You can zoom out, zip around any big route and zoom back in. And it's perfectly smooth.

Hard drives just don't compare.

Yep, I am sure it is a great computer.... When you see a computer that usually cost $1500 like that... You know something is wrong with it... And then even worse, hes trying to rip you off by convincing you that it is a good running computer under the usual $1300 price tag.... Yep, I am so going to buy it.. Then you cant have it shipped.. Your just asking for a lot of issues there...

High spec computers usually do badly on ebay, thats why when I did my new build I broke up the old one and sold the parts individually. In this guys case he screwed himself by making it cash only. He could hardly be ripping you off because if you were paying COC you would want to see it working before you paid for it.
 
Thanks to all. My AZZA case has tons of room for expansion. There are 4 bays for HDD/SSD. Plenty of space for fans, etc. I'm already planning my upgrades for next year. I received my new desktop last Thursday, but I am still working on getting my new office space set up (my wife and I both work from home, now) so I have only plugged it in to make sure it fires up!

I recently discovered that Walmart has a system in place to allow customers to custom build either an i buy power or Cyberpower configuration through the website. I configured one of each in high specs, and each came out to be just over $1300.00 USD. I then compared the parts to the prices on New Egg, and discovered that the cost they charge to build, test and ship each unit is about $325.00, marginally more considering the generic components they use (in some cases). In my case I decided that I would rather re-use some parts from my old build, and use that $325.00 to upgrade my part selection to build it myself.

Still, in both cases, an i7 3770, an SSD, 16GB RAM, and a 670 2GB for under $1400.00, with no building required? Not too bad.

Of course, the tax is at least 8%, so that drives the cost all told above $1400.00, the shipping is "free". Systems start at $476.00.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry? In the good old U of K we pay 20% VAT on pretty much EVERYTHING. It would be cheaper for me to buy a cheap flight to the States, buy a shedload of gear and chance getting it back through Customs in my suitcase.

Yeah, well do it fast, I suspect we'll be paying the VAT before the end of next year. We're about a couple years, maybe five behind you and the rest of the world as far as dealing with the massive debt and unfunded liabilities our nation carries, everyone still thinks someone else will solve it painlessly... You are still better off. I just looked up "US national debt per person" and it is a mere $52, 025 per person. The UK national debt is £172,000 POUNDS per person.

BTW to keep the thread relevant I have a new toy arriving on Tuesday....I'll post a pic :mop:
