Everthing Steam (Warning Large Pics)

Thanks for your kind words Bob.

I stage them for trackside camera views. I find it’s well worth while spending a bit of time on them for added realism.

For the non-prototypical bits of my routes, if I see something in a book, or out in our local countryside I try to copy it. Any scenery will do as long as it’s attractive. I then place the railway wherever I want within that scene.

Large sections of my routes have much less detail though, otherwise the whole lot would grind to a halt.

I still have a very heavily loaded city in my Italian route which can cause a game crash from my early days of route building. I had coal and oil industries, an airport, seaport and heliports etc. Nearly every house had a spline wall around it! That still needs some thinning out, but taught me a lesson. I tend to use textures much more, and far fewer splines these days.

I’ve effectively ended up with several little staged scenarios which are linked by rail through open countryside or coastline, using lots of the same objects and textures to help reduce load.

Of the two shots posted above the first is taken from the tracking camera, the closer view is free roaming.

Cheers

Um Casper...I don't want to sound like I'm a gimme pig or anything, but may i ask you where you got those 4-wheel wagons and that..er, "box" car (forgive my tendency to use american railroad slang, I've found that, while i know a great deal about british railroading, There is still much i have to learn:D)

The only reason i ask is I'm on a bit of a british binge (thanks to building the route from the Movie The Titfield Thunderbolt and the route from Ivor the Engine) and I'm trying to add to the stuff already built in to TS2010. And i personally have a soft spot in my heart for those old, beat up, bashed around freight cars. More fun to haul around...they look like a real train!

anyway, i must say that is one of the best shots I've seen with the 9F. You definitely have a knack i desperately need to learn. Now, off to fume about not waiting and buying TS2012 instead of TS2010:o.

Hi sawyer511.

No problem at all! I’m always more than happy to share.

I think I got the rolling stock from the DLS before it was closed to legacy users. I cannot get in to check because I don’t have access any more.

Here are links to several types, which each have a direct link to the DLS if appropriate: http://www.ltsv.com/t_wag_open.php and http://www.ltsv.com/t_wag_general.php

The ones in my shots are:

Thanks for your kind comments on the screenshots.

I love the 9f – it’s a really photogenic loco, both in reality and in the excellent model.

May I take this opportunity to thank Rob Hill and Lesto Route Works once again for creating such a wonderful loco and also those fellow Trainzers who helped me to get all of the dependencies and other advice last April when I was struggling to get it working. I was so impressed when I found out I could also edit the number to match the original, have a double chimney and a selection of tenders!

I was on a bit of a nostalgia trip trying to recapture my youth from around 50 years ago. Here’s an old photo of a 9f which I took on a cheap plastic camera. It’s great to be able to recapture the scene after so many years – and also fly around it!.

Thanks again to the inventors of the software all of the great creators who keep this hobby, and my old memories, alive.

Cheers

Josh I saw on your site we may see a streamlined K4 to pull the Broadway Limited. Would it be possible to see a T1 too!

Both would look good being serviced here and with a slight rewrite of history this will the the biggest terminal between New York and Chicago and this would be one of the Broadway Limited stops.

Some from a custom followup layout from Boston Switch

The White Creek RR. It is a NG line connecting to the C&O at one end. It contains 2 lumber yards, two yards, and 5 mines. The whole layout is in free hand valley terrain following a creek. It is about 10 miles long and drags tons of coal to an interchange to be taken to a electric plant several miles down the C&O main. The RR also takes logs to a per mill at the interchange yard. There is a small yard and roundhouse at mine #2 on the WCR.

Some prog shots
All from #4 mine
