Error: Failed to install asset

I have just been downloading silversmith's Glasgow trams. The content manager showed a missing dependency which I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to download: "Tram Glasgow Kil/Bogey interior" <kuid:62391:55061> using CM3.3 (TS10) or CM3.6 (TS12). The download appears to complete successfully but then I get a message saying Error: Failed to install asset. I have done an EDR and I still get the same message. I have also downloaded the asset from the black pages as a CDP and I still get the same message. Is there a problem with a corrupt asset on the DLS or (more likely) am I doing something silly? Could someone who hasn't downloaded this asset previously see if they can download it OK and let me know? Thanks for your help.

It won't download here via cm. Goes through the downloading process but still shows as on the ds.
Also just noticed says task complete.
Nothing in my today box either.

Once I can get my CM3.6 to load up, I will check the asset. The Log feature (accessed using View > Log) may give an insight into what's going on.

It will say successfully downloaded asset xxxxx, underneath that failed to install asset xxxxx.

Just checked using both CM and importing as CDP - both failed.

This tells me that either the CDP file is faulty, or the asset itself is malformed.

I have just downloaded Stagecoache's ATLS advanced demo and he uses some Glasgow trams that use this same asset. I had the same problems installing the asset but got round the problem by first installing the asset into TC3 which accepts it without a problem. My first attempt at making a cdp from there and installing into TS2012 met with the same install problem, however, opening the asset for edit in TC3 then going to TS12 and importing content from the TC3/Editing folder installed the asset without problem. So if you have an earlier version of Trainz that will accept the asset you might be able to do the same thing.

I had to do the same as dvevans8 to install it in TS12. I installed it into TS2006 without a problem, made a CDP of it, installed the CDP into TS2009 and made another CDP, then used this to install into TS2010 and TS12.

I have had to do this sometimes with very old assets.

Thank you for all the useful replies. I am glad in a way that is not just me having problems. I don't have TC3 currently installed as I am trying to migrate all my stuff to TS12. I think this must be a faulty item on the system that has obviously previously worked and to me indicates that it is corrupted on the server. I will raise a ticket and see what happens and report back if << when I get a reply.

sorry to bump this thread but this asset is still defective on the DLS ! how do we get it corrected as its needed for a tram i have ?

The problem is a .txt file with a length of 0 bytes, which the latest versions of Trainz can't handle. TRS2006 has no problem to install this asset. There are 2 possible solutions.

1. If you have TRS2006 installed:
- Install in TRS2006
- Open for edit in explorer
- Delete the file new text document.txt
- Commit and save as .cdp file

2. Without TRS2006 you have to use a hex editor:
- Open the .cdp file using the hex editor
- search for new text document.txt
- change txt to xxx (make sure you are changing and not inserting)
- save the modified .cdp file.
