env_metal.texture wont load error

hello!
i am keep getting this annoying error that says

"env_metal.texture failed to load"
when i looked into the folder it reads "env_metal.texture.txt"
any fixes?

Make sure there is a corresponding file that is referred to in env_metal.texture.txt. It may refer to a file named env_metal.tga or possibly env_metal.bmp. That file also has to be there.

If it has all the texture files and still is erroring. Try running the IM/PM mesh file through PEVSoft's PM2IM program. If it is already an IM file then you can set the program to "Open IM files" or something like that to "strip" unsupported texture types. I've used it before and it worked wonders.

im a little confused , what am i supposed to do exactly?

Open the actual texture.

If it's a bmp file, save as 32-bit.

If it's a tga file, save as uncompressed.

edit: ive used the PM/IM method and is removed some of the errors now im stuck with

"texture 'shirt_tie.texture' is missing or cant be loaded in mesh 'man.im'"

If you provide more information about the erroneous object, it may be easier to fix it.

1- Kuid number and username
2-Is it in the DLS?
3- If it is not in the DLS, please provide a link to the download site.
4-Version of the game where it is wrong.

With this data maybe we can reproduce the error in our games.

Looking at your screenshot, it looks like the actual file name is "shirt & tie", which could be problematic using the "&" character. You could try changing the file names on both files from "shirt & tie" to "shirt_tie", which is what the .im file appears to be lookng for. Beware that if you change "shirt & tie.bmp" to "shirt_tie.bmp", you will also have to change that reference inside the texture.txt file.

What is the KUID of this asset? If it is on the DLS, it may be one for the Content Repair Group. Otherwise, the owner should fix it, but I know how that goes.

<kuid:268447:2327> is not on the Download Station. Sorry, I can't help.

Non-DLS websites quite often have very poor quality control, certainly not to the level of the DLS. Rather than fix this asset yourself, it would do the trainz world a favour if you complained to the owners of whatever website this asset is on, and to the author of the asset and get them to fix it at source. Otherwise hundreds of users like yourself will face the exact same problem and need to apply the same fixes individually. It is collectively a big waste of time and effort.

If you keep using non-DLS assets, expect the same sorts of hassle to keep happening.

Now I shall don my raincoat, hoist my umbrella and ride out the storm of protest from non-DLS apologists.

I gave up on everything TTE because it seems to always be faulty or missing dependencies. But you can try what I said in post #9 above.

I tested that asset in TANE, it functions with no problem, no errors, asset includes but doesn't require env_metal.texture.txt and associated texture file...

I have had luck converting the file to another format such as .tga.

You need to edit the texture.txt file and change the reference in there from .jpg to .tga.

Save the text file, close the asset and submit and see what happens. The worst thing is it won't work.

I'm glad to hear that!

There must be something with jpg files, or the format that some jpgs are saved in. I ran into this a few times not only in TS12 but also in TANE and up, but never in earlier versions. The reason is the older versions, such as TS2009 don't have the error checking and reporting that TS12 and up have. In the older versions, the models load but the faulty texture is ignored, so there's no way of knowing there's a problem or not.
