Enlisted

This is confusing...how do you get your uniforms and then be able to post? As I remember after I got mine we were then cut off from outside contact.

Maybe he had to buy them at a shop or something, or he is about to get them and this was his last outside contact...

Is it just me or does the US Army seems terribly strict?

It is part of the entire "boot camp" process to build discipline. You go to bare bones, nothing but the Army, yes sir, no sir, eat, sleep, sh!t nothing but the Army. You have to earn privileges back .

I guess things have changed, when I went to PI the only thing a recruit was allowed to keep was his wedding ring and Bible!

John

I can't imagine any branch of the military that would 'welcome' you to boot camp and then issue uniforms and then allow you to keep in your possession anything other than what they have given you. If that's the case now days, they certainly have softened up quite a bit!

when i went through parris island you took your body and that was it .11 weeks of my life i'll never forget...by the way have you ever tried the manual of arms with a foot locker? RIGHT SHOULDER LOCKER BOX!

Is it possible that this is a hoax? There seem to be several points that do not ring true. Flying to boot camp, posting here after induction and uniform issue. Where did he find the time or the means to do so. Are raw recruits allowed to keep their mobiles?

Peter

I can buy the flight. I was sent us air from Connecticut to Illinois for my basic training at RTC Great Lakes. (US Navy)

In the "Old Corp" that would be gone, amongst other things, within the first couple of hours after swearing in!

John

I remember When I got to Ft. Knox Ky. for my Boot camp training, even before the bus came to a stop, the drill Sgt. started to scream and cuss, and called us anything but a Human Being, then the last thing he said with that evil grin on his stone hard face was.... "You are trash, and this is what they give me to make soldiers out of" So this thought came across my head.... What the hell did I get myself into this time?:o I'm glad I joined!.... Now I'm a Veteran, and proud of it! Good luck Kris we should here from you in 6 weeks or so. -Robert-

Good Luck Kris94, I was a Division Commander (Red Rope) in the Navy or a Drill Instructor and your worse nightmare. I did 31 years

Motivational platoon. Set back in training, 9 weeks turns into 11 weeks turns into 13 weeks turns into however long it takes.

Nobody ever confiscated my laptop or cellphone - can't confiscate what hasn't been invented yet. :hehe:
Fly to bootcamp, yes - about half the people at AFEES Chicago got on the train to Great Lakes, the rest of us went to O'Hare to fly to San Diego or Orlando. Lucky for me, San Diego was a lot better than Chicago in the winter. Both are closed now, last I heard Great Lakes is the only Navy bootcamp left.
