Just swore in to the US Army Reserves. I get shipped out to Fort Benn, Georgia on October 1, 2012 for Basic Combat Training(Boot Camp). Don't get back until around Christmas time and leave again on January 2, 2013 to Fort Eustus, Virginia for Advanced Individual Training(AIT) and get back in late February.

Good luck Kris. :)

Getting Trainz out of the system I mean. :p

I assume that is what Boot Camp is all about, booting and rebooting all in a camp, so no time to Trainz anymore due to booting. :)

Sorry, just been having some rebooting done on the computer, felt it was funny - probably is not.

Do the best out of the time, be the best you can be, and enjoy the experience as much as possible.

Best Wishes

Linda

Mmm... will you still be on the forums?

No. Won't have time. Only weekends are rest days. And sometimes it could just be one day. Saturday is busy and Sunday is free or vice versa. Can't even bring a phone with you. No civilian clothes. Just underwear socks, shoes, and t-shirts. And some cash for hygiene products. And they'll have prepaid phones and phone cards but that's about it for basic training. Although for AIT you'll have more freedom.

Just underwear socks, shoes, and t-shirts.
You don't wear pants? :hehe: And what are underwear socks? Are they like pants?Like from your underwear to your socks? :hehe:
Or is that just what californians call pants? :hehe:
And I will miss you... shame you can't trainz while you're there.

Kris, I am impressed by your decision. Going to boot camp can be a frightening proposition, but keep your head on straight and you'll do fine. Remember the purpose of all the abuse you'll receive is to "break you down" so they can "build you back up" the Army way. When I went to boot camp, I happened to go with a couple of high school class mates. One was a tough guy...a bully all through school, the other was just a guy like myself. Guess which one got broken down to the point of having to ask for a Chaplain's intervention to be let out his contract? That's right.... the bully. I wish you the best of luck, and will look forward to hearing of your success sometime in the future.

I wish you the best: I went to Fort Knox, KY in Nov, Heartbreak Ridge and Heart Attack Hill broke my _ _ _ _' _ on 45 mile road march(s) carrying a 55 lb rucksack, in 8 inches of snow (it snowed 10 more inch overnight, also, breaking our tent poles) ... freezing.

It will teach you much about yourself, and it is meant to push you to the limit of your breaking point ... that is the purpose.

There are no PC's nor Trainz in Boot Camp ... as far as I know.

You will be dog tired ... and woken continually up at 2:30, in surprise fire drills, emergency fall out formations in the foulest of weather, push ups in 10 inches of snow, and with tanks firing live tracer round ammo, directly over top of your tent, in a surprise War Game in the field. You might even get pushed out of a perfectly good aereoplane with a BSA backpack full of pots & pans, on your back ! :hehe:

Be forwarned: gambling swindling scams will lure you into losing your whole paycheck ... and thieves are everywhere in the Armed Forces !

Look at the bright side. Get paid every month. Life insurance. Free tuition. GI Bill covers a lot just in case something happens. And get paid $1000/month for going to school. And my pay increases as I get promoted. And it get maybe $500-$700/2 weeks at Basic Training and the same if not more, for AIT. So that's money for a brand new spanking lab top, Rail Driver, JR Goodies and Club Car Membership, RRMODS stash, lifetime FCT, and best of all, World of Trainz Content, which is the best, hands down in my opinion. So all that and then some, can't beat that. Great benefits eh?

Fast Fact: 97% of Americans are unfit to serve in the Armed Forces, of the 3% that can, only 1% are a part of the Armed Forces. So only 1 out of 100 are actually in the Armed Forces.

1 in 100 is a lot. Aus only has 1 in 400 or so. We don't necessarily need them

Good luck Kris, would you think of becoming an officer?

Yes. That's what I'm trying to work for. Get my Associates Degree in Railroad Operations, then become an officer. Then I could be a general.

I was in the Army for 3 years, you will have very Little time for anything when in training and very Little room to store your privet things. It will also "open your eyes".

One can dream, and one can set a goal, but I think I'd temper my aspirations a bit until you see what you're dealing with. It's often many, many years to achieve that particular goal.

Not sure what to make of this. I was one of those 400 for 23 years, and for someone not needed, I was kept very busy.

Kris,
Enjoy your time, it only comes once. When your an old bugger like me, you'll even laugh about most of the 'bad' times you had.
