ELECTRIFICATION POSSIBLE ON CREATING LAYOUTS???

Electricrailwaygod

electric railways NOW!
Greetings.
I am a Japanese Swiss and advocate for railway electrification in real life. I have evidently an older version of TRAINZ. On the "Surveyor" section, I cannot find how to add CATENARY (and subsequent masts) to the track layout! (I am also having a terrible time in trying to set up as the cursor cross keeps flittering all over the bloody place)!

Sorry, but I don't do diesel! My railway (once I can figure it out as to just how to create such!) is only to be ELECTRIFIED (with perhaps one or two standby emergency use diesels -- i.e. in a power outage or the like).

I am a bit disappointed with my game however, I do hope that the latest version (2009) has that option of adding catenary to the layout. (I am tired of running electrics and only having to IMAGINE having catenary, I want the "real" thing)! Please, if anyone should know this issue, please do let me know!

One last thing, as the BR (BritRail) does indeed have SOME electrification, on my present game, only BR DIESEL locs have been featured! What happened to the ELECTRICS?

Cheers!
Thanks!

The catenary is a 'spline' normally. This is found by opening the 'scenery' tab, then clicking on the 'splines' button. You lay it in a similar method to track.

Some creators have made 'modular' catenaries, where you lay the wire and then place the masts as 'trackside' objects along the track. Most, however, are a single piece setup, using splines :)

There are usually catenarys in the "spline" mode. If not, there are some on the Trainz Download Station (DLS).

Dear Koseiko,

There are overhead cateneries in Trainz 2004 onwards (for example - see the "Winter in the Black Forest" buit-in scenario).

As the others have stated - they are usually found as Splines in Scenery - not tracks...

Trainz has always had overhead catenary and it has always been hard to use.

It was hard to use when I had a slow computer. In fact, there are some Youtube videos on laying catenary and catenary heights in Trainz.

The faster the computer, the better it handles the catenary splines.

(Well, that has been my experience! )

That was something that I found too with my old motherboard, but I don't have that problem now.

My biggest problem now with putting in catenary, using the ones that are made up of little bits, is I can't seem to see the wires and get the parts lined up properly, and I can't always seem to select the objects and end up moving the wrong parts.

The splines work nicely, but I find them to be a bit too heavy-looking compared to the nicer ones made up of little bits and pieces.
