Purveyor of the Forgotten
I wanted to start a thread to start a discussion on something that I feel needs to be brought up. This isn't directed towards any one person, I have seen many cases of this...

I have NEVER understood why if one person creates a model for this program why they think they, and they alone, are the only ones allowed to and no one else is.

That is the biggest load of garbage I have ever heard.

Yes, they rightfully have the copyrights to their work, but that is all.

When someone sits down and creates something all on their own (EDIT: Meaning original work for them), no one here has anything to say about how they offer it, be it payware or free ware, DLS or their own web site. No one here has the right to suppress or demand anyone else's work or what they do with it.

Now get off your self important high horses and come back down to earth.

Chris.

It is not just that. It is also the fact of how soooo many content creators choose to release their content under a non-free license. :( ;)

Regards.

-I happened to be thinking the same thing, in a way...
-Just because you make something doesn't mean no one else can. Rather its freeware or payware, doesn't matter. Whats wrong with competition? Nothing. In the end its still a game and some take things way to serious.
-Example: I want to own the intermodal world of trainz. If someone else builds the same stuff, so what. Now there's two to choose from. I had fun making it and I have fun using it! Now that I can somewhat model, I feel obligated to give back to the community since I have used so many assets from other creators, so that's what I plan to do when I can... give back to the community!
-Anyway, like I said before its just a game/simulator and we're all here to enjoy it!

In response to this rather thinly veiled thread, I'll point out that "ego" and "business" are two different things.

As far as I know, no one has been granted exclusive rights to make anything.

How people people offer their work is up to them... but I know of no exclusivity clause.

I actually have been told :

"No, you can't do a reskin/model of that, so and so did that 5 years ago..."

Bull, plain and simple.

If this is a continuation of another thread which I suspect it is, maybe it would be better for all if the principals involved discussed this privately between themselves.

Cheers

AJ

It's a game, Kiddies. Let us not forget that it's a game. You're supposed to have fun, not get an ulcer from worrying about who did what where. This place is like a goddamn elementary school.

Sorry, but I take offense at your language. Is it really necessary or is your vocabulary that limited?.

Hello all here:wave:

First of all there is a concept called intellectual copyright and anyone who creates something; be it written, painted or created on a computer; has the right to its protection.
However if someone thinks that they can improve on anything I have created for Trainz; then all they have to do is ask me for permission to do so. That is called respect. I never refuse such requests. Before anyone says it’s my Ego; it’s not, it is my right both intellectual and lawfully.

If I repaint my car, have I the right to say to Ford; ok pals I now own the rights to the Focus because I have re-painted mine?

Some fools here should also remember that what may seem offensive in one country; is just every day terminology in another. Thankfully you lot are not on the United Nations for if you were we would be well into WWIII.

And this thread has got daft.:p

The point was as long as there is no copyright violations, no one can prevent anyone else from making or releasing content....

Some here feel that they do have that right.

Yes, "goddamn" is very Horrible language. :n:

Regards.

Oh okay.I thought foul language was censored on forums ? That's why I asked if it was foul language.Sorry to get off topic

In most places outside of the US "damn" isn't really a bad word. Being as these forums are run by Auran an Australian company, you need to operate with Aussie language rules, not American. So you can say Damn all you want.

*side note: I'm not sure about the usage of "goddamn" I just know I had a nice convo with the powers that be over the words "damn" and "pi$t" (which apparently is a bad word in most places, except the US)

I may be a fool, but if that term is your idea of every day terminology, then I still suggest that you need to expand your vocabulary. That's everyday language nowhere that I know of with a little class. My career was around construction sites, so I'm very familiar with this kind of language. Just because it exists doesn't make it acceptable. This is, by the way, supposed to be a G rated forum. If you don't believe so, just see what happened to 'Lamp Post Linda'.

If you make any content that use the Union Pacific Logo or wording with out there permission you are in breach of the law. Apart from the built in content how much of the content on the DLS has been approved anyway.:o

Somebody stole some of my meshs and art work and released them on the DLS as there own work and guess what I just have to cop it sweet as there is nothing I can do about this 14 year old twit.

I don't consider 'damn' and 'g..damn' in the same category and yes, I find that term VERY offensive.

Aussie G-rating, not American; you need to change your definitions.

If you don't believe so, just see what happened to 'Lamp Post Linda'.

Actually I don't really see how the LPL issue can be argued much any more since there are models out there on the DLS of chicks with their dresses being 'blown' up, posing in more revealing clothing then LPL, etc.

My point is that it doesn't really matter here what you consider to be offensive or not, it is what the company (Auran) has decided based off their local customs.

Hi all

Define no copyright violations please Chris. In my understanding a copyright violation is when someone uses others work and passes it off as their own work. And it does not matter what people here think or how many of them think such. For if you use someone’s work that they may have spent many hours, days or even months to create; you are a thief no matter what your age is.

Now would you all think if someone broke into your house and stole your computer and the put it into a new case; and the said “but it’s a new computer because it has a new case”? It sounds daft, does it not? But that is what a lot of people are saying here, “I like that, so I will re-paint it and call it my own”. If anyone does that to my stuff; then you better believe I will sue you whatever you age. Because you would be a thief and if I cannot sue you, I will sue your dad.
