Eastland Rocket Progress

Why the curve? You're in a flat desert, so Desert tracks go straight to their destination, as they don't have mountains etc. to deal with and get around

Jamie

Plus Hert suggested that the tracks not run in an indefinite straight line. Plus I'm trying to make the route more realistic and interesting. As well as enjoyable.

I know the picture may not say much or explain anything but what type of transition should I make. I want to put a city right here but I don't know if I should keep the textures as is or make them look like this?:

How is that supposed to help me? I'm doing a fiction railroad you know.

Even fictional routes are based on realistic scenery. Cascade's comment was really quite appropriate. Las Vegas is in the middle of a desert with Lake Meade relatively nearby for a water source. Take a look at google earth and study how the transitions work there. You'll see lots of variations depending on development and the amount of watering being performed. I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Study the real world and see how it looks. Look at the details. The combination of details is what makes the landscape.

Well I'm looking at a satellite image.

I'm afraid that you're 'seeing' a satallite image, but not really 'looking'. Some of us can''t see the forest for the trees while others of us can't see the trees for the forest. I believe that all great route creators can see both, or at least a mix of the two.

As far as your transitions are concerned. Most transitions are gradual and can take place over a great distance.

So what about sudden? I know it may not be the most realistic but....

That's fine if you're changing from a fairway to a green on a golf course, but nature just doesn't occur that way.

However, if you're not after realistic then it doesn't matter, does it?

There's been a change in plans. I'm cancelling the city selection I made. Instead I'll extend the distance between cities too 100 baseboards.
