East Kentucky

Andy,

Glad you have accepted TS2010. I was skeptical at first, too. But have learned this new version's idiosyncrasies and I love it now.

One question. . . will EK3 be in sections like the original, or all one file?

Screenshots look fabulous!

EK3 will include in a single route everything that was in EK1 and EK2. In addition it includes an extension to the west which will include at least the yard at Hazard Ky plus enough westbound track to get a pair of portals in. Originally I was going to also include the Lotts Creek Branch, but I am honestly getting sick of trees so Lotts Creek might have to wait till EK4...

Andy :)

Yes, trees hid the tracks...

Yea, I'm feelin your pain...it's not just trees, it's also trackside brush...

Grogstop65, "The Painter," was good at this(however he could not come to grips with "attaching" spline points to the baseboard. This was his 'final' show-stopping 'Achilles Heal.')...however, several copy his 'technique.'

I have almost a thousand miles of solitary track-laying, awaiting accomplishment with this approach...alone, yes, but not in Auran Trainz Railroad Simulator Two-Thousand-4.

EKv1, EKv2, are Legacy Routes....you are now, so aware & in the present. Anything forward, is current!

No one has a legit reason for staying with Legacy software, that want to enjoy what NeverFail has progressed, that Planet Auran began, period!(Can you tell, I am a perfectionist?)

You so walk not alone, Dermmy!

Real shame for those waiting for this Route to appear in 04/06 though as there are still a few who are are not as computer savvy when it comes to the trouble TS2010 causes on older machines,But thats progress for ya best of luck with EK3 Dermmy the pics look great.
Cheers Mick.

yes matruck, I understand...

 ...however, "keeping it simple," is not an option today...!

We have social-networking...Facebook, YouTube, anything running JavaScript, the necessary software including payware Internet Security is mandated.

You know that every computer you see post on the TS2010 Forums is now obsolete...you get-in where you fit-in...

I only have TRS2004, TRS2006 installed for reference to past assets to update for TS2009-TS2010.

Use the Compatibility Programs for these new versions of the games(I posted this months ago in the Software Forum).

You maybe surprised at what just needs to be done...we are not using X486 anymore!

Most of the route to date was done in 04, therefor runs OK in 06. It is not impossible (though no promises!) that I might work out a way to get an abbreviated version of the route out for the earlier versions. Again - no promises - but it definitely won't happen till some time after after the main release...

Andy :)

Thanks for generous offer Andy but hopefully me and the other hold outs will have TS2010 up and running correctly by the time your done.:D

To those who have tried 10 and quit I would humbly point out that NOBODY canned 2010 harder than I did when it first appeared. It sucked. With perseverance I am quite happy to admit I was wrong - dead wrong.

Hang in, it's worth it...

For those who remember, TRS2004 got the same reception when it was first released.....then after all the service packs were released, it turned out to be pretty good. I think the same can be said for 2010....

That is disappointing. Ts2010 offers 3D vegetation and Speedtree which was a demand of the Trainz Community.

We have our own choice to use what we want in our routes, but upgrading the vegetation should be considered. I feel to many are afraid to use Speedtree for unwarranted reasons.

Ummm, if you ask me, those tree's are really ugly. It's great that they change with the season that you set it to. But Dermmy is doing great with his trees. And why would he switch those trees out when he's already said that he's getting sick of placing the ones down he has now?

I really like the Speedtreez. And I've found that some of them are ugly, but there are many that are really nice. But whatever Andy uses is fine with me!:)

Andy, is the content on EK going to be mostly built-in?

I really don't want to drag this off topic, but I'm with George on this one. I am not saying I would never use a 3D tree, just that at their present state of evolution they are not my thing...

Andy

Unfortunately, until speed squidz stop looking like crap, I still think that the cross trees are more than good enough. Granted, the Ultratreez that you made do look good, but I still prefer the higher realism of the crossed photo style of tree. It allows more intricacy that complicated vegetation needs, without sacrificing frame rates, or using ridiculous LODS. Also, Speed Octopus doesn't move realistically. It is too muscle like, and not very plant like. (Plus, the winter mode just sucks.) Don't get me wrong, speed tree is good for games like Company of Heros, and GTA, where the scenery isn't the main focus of the game, but in a simulation that centers around creating realistic worlds, then running a train through them, it just isn't working yet. The technology for 3D animated trees just isn't at that stage yet.

What I would have liked to see, when it comes to animation, is animated grass. That would been nice immersion wise, and really, you could pull grass off better than a tree in my opinion, with less sacrifices to detail.

I think that EK3 would look horrible with Speed Cuttlefish and that it would be a disappointment.

As a route builder who loves the immersion of animated things, such as traffic, and walking pedestrians, I have to say that as of right now, I am just not impressed with the animated trees. It just isn't at the right level yet. It doesn't mean that I want Auran to give up on 3D animated trees, quite the opposite. I think that it is the future for realistic scenery based gaming, but it needs more development until it looks good. It is kinda like old CGI in movies. Back in the day, using a puppet of a monster, rather than the CGI monster would have probably looked better(though been more expensive, or impossible.) but you could see the potential of the CGI, even if it looked REALLY bad. Now, you have movies such as Avatar, which look realistically gorgeous, and are almost entirely CGI. It just takes fine tuning and development.
