Dynamic Brake how?

All you need to do is: A: Look in the hotkeys, B:Press the number pad key 7, or C:Move the Dynamic brace handle in the loco ( cab mode only ).

After you move the dynamic brake then give it throttle, the more throttle the more brake you'll be applying.

Whitepass is right, I know all steam locos don't have any dynamic brakes, and some older diesels shouldn't.

Jointed Rail ATSF F7A has great dynamic brakes, and realistic in cab sounds, and Mars Gyrolight.
I ran an A-B-B-A set down ''The Slide" (an 11 mile grade on the Horseshoe Curve) with a 11,000 ton train in tow, with 2 helpers on the rear, and the dynamic brakes acted very realisticly, and trainhandling was very challenging using dynamic brakes in CAB mode.

No kidding steam engines didn't have electric motors driving the wheels so impossible to have dynamic brakes. Dynamic brakes is simply converting an electric drive motor into a generator.

I guess it's the same for all versions but for 04 and 06 you need to be at lowest throttle setting before you can engage the dynamic brakes and then adjust the throttle to suit.

Cheers
Russell.

It seems the throttle must be set to off, and then the 2 settings (mid, and full dynamic brakes) can be engaged, and throttled up, providing variable electrical resistance in the dynamic brake grids.

dynamic brakes are only effective in specific speed ranges, and become ineffective at low speed.

you can modifie this effective here
