Driving helper Units?

Can a person have an AI driving the head-end locomotives of a train while they drive the tail-end helpers, or do AI's always have to control every locomotive on a train?

Only one control per consist. You can sit in the end one but not control it if in AI mode.

I've wanted to try and run the helpers while the leads do their thing too. That would be a LOT of fun.
