Downloads on websites?

I recently noticed that there are some websites out there that sell DLC on a website(Roy's Trainz, Trainz Pro Routes, etc). I was just wondering how these people get their content onto a website so that the public can download it. THanks for yoour help!

You can package any content you create into a ".cdp" file - Content manager will do this for you - that can then be uploaded to a web site much like you would upload a video file or an Office document. The files available on the DLS are all in this format.

In Content Manager just select the files to be packaged (a package can contain a single asset or multiple assets), right mouse click and select "Save to CDP" from the menu.

Can you tell me exactly how to create the".CDP" file? ive downloaded content from jointed rail and other sites and it says its a .cdp file but i dont know how to tdo that

1. Open Content manager.
2. [optional] Do a search or activate a filter to narrow down the list to those assets that you want to package e.g. those with your own ID number
3. Select (left mouse click) each asset that you want to package - for more than one asset hold down the Ctrl key when you select them
4. Right mouse click on any one of the selected assets and select "Save to CDP" from the popup menu.
5. Select a suitable drive/folder and enter a filename for the package - ".cdp" will be automatically added to the end of your entered filename by Content Manager.

You can then upload the .cdp package (provided it contains your created assets such as routes and/or sessions and not work belonging to someone else such as Jointed Rail) to an external web site. How you do this will vary from one web site to another. There should be an Upload link at the site which should explain the steps needed.

Rafter.

Just a note about creating CDP's that pware neglected to mention: if you create a ~.CDP file that contains items on the DLS, you can upload that ~.cdp to the DLS, or to other sites. However, Trainzers consider it bad form (and in some cases it may be illegal) to include assets not on the DLS created by others in your own ~.cdp that you to the DLS or a third party site, without getting the permission of the creators to do so.

DLC is normally taken to mean payware sold by N3V such as S&C. In the windows world ie TS12 we have CMP so click on content on the first screen. Then file import .cdps will bring .cdps into the game. If you create content then you can right click on the asset and use save to .cdp. TrainzProRoutes like many other sites does not sell content its there to be downloaded for free. There is a donate button if you're feeling rich on many of the sites to keep them going but many are run as hobby sites and are just free to use.

There is a long tradition in Trainz of producing content for free. Payware introduces complications such as if you use a dependency made for free by someone else should they be compensated or should their license saying do not use it in payware be respected.

Content on TrainzProRoutes is free to download - you must register but this too is free. Content for TRS2004 is still being made available through TPR for the many enthusiasts of that version.
