downloading on trs2004

hello, i have recently aquired a new trs2004 but i cant download anything. the helper opens but then it says retrying. it never works for me. can someone enlighten me and help. thanks

The DLS seems to be down a lot lately. A quick test of the DLS status is to click on Download Station tab at the top of this Form page. If it doesn't go to the DLS immediately, it's down.

the trs download helper works! !yay!
but what do i do next because the helper finishes downloading then closes.

Nothing. The DLH puts all downloads into the download folder ready for you to use.

after they're in the download box do they go straight to the game so i can use them as soon as possible?

TO is a freeware program called Trainz Objects. I dont remember at the moment where to get it from, but I will look for it unless someone else provides you with a link before that.

Trainz Objectz (TO) is available at http://www.tafweb-trainz.co.uk/downloads.html
Scroll down to the bottome of this site's page and select download.
TO is absolutely essential for TRS2004 users if you expect to successfully manage your assets and if you download stuff from the DLS or third party sites.

Why do you need to be any more efficient than the process provided by the Trainz Helper?

Ftp stands for File Transfer Protocol. When you registered with Auran, you were also automatically provided with a special code that the system uses to allow to 'download' content via this protocol (without it, you cannot gain access to the ftp server). To use this method, you must select the "ftp" link instead of the "download Helper" when downloading the asset you want. the issue is that choosing this selection, the file is downloaded to the location you choose as a *.cdp file (the standard file format for all things "Trainz") and it is then up to you to MANUALLY install the object. How is this more efficient than the Download Helper which does it all for you?

i cant use the helper because when it finishes downloading the certain engine doesn't show up in the railyard and i cant use it in driver or surveyor

Have you got paintshed installed as well. Check that the dependancies are all for your version. sometimes creators update the item for 06 and this means that it is downloaded to 04 but wont work because of the build number being incorrect. Which engine are you after, kuid number?
