Down grade speed limit

Slave to my route
In general I have a long 2% grade leading down to the Ohio River crossing. My question is for heavy coal drags and freight trains, what is a safe speed limit to keep trains under control going down this grade? Please keep in mind this is a steam era route set around the early 1930's.

While we're at lets add passenger service too.

Depends on the track conditions ... I like to keep steep grades at 15 mph, with heavy 1 mile long trains.

I drive 5 -10 mph in switching areas (but I always was a little slow) :hehe:
