DLC content clog

There are some who post to the DLC, a good example is up today.... nearly 1000 small files of about 42kb each. Track sections that could best be put up as a zip file so that one doesn't have to wade through 1000 files in order to find anything new. Either that, or limit the posts to 1/4 of that before other files can sneak in. Wedge Antillies is one of the main posters, and while the material may be needed, it appears to be needed by a relative few number judging by the downloads. Each day that posts like this go up, is a day removed from your download station subscription. My suggestion, if a 1000 of these little pieces are necessary, is to zip them up and offer them all in one download. Don't clog the DLC. Each time you revise one small element of your content, the entire 1000 file load goes back up. Find a better way.

I think you mean the DLS. You obviously haven't figured out how it works as otherwise you would know what you are suggesting can't be done. I'd be interested to know though why somebody uploading 1000 small files removes a day from your download subscription.

Fairly simple Paul, try to follow. 1000 of these files means a day when nothing else gets put up, hence a lost day. Unless you're downloading all 1000 of these. Now the DLS may not allow zipped files, but this is precisely what I'm suggesting. If there are to be several 1000 of these small files, allow them to be zipped. This whole file zip idea is custom made for just this type of thing, and it really works.

I really do not see the problem you are trying to have.

So what he uploads 1000 assets?

Rarely the new amount of objects is over 200, so the few times it happens there are a few more.

If apparently 1000 is the maximum of new objects (which would surprise me), you wait 24 hours and other free content shows up.
I would not be surprised there simply was no new other content. It happens.

Be happy people are actually still creating new free content and updating old content.

Try to understand this, it's not too hard. There is no limit on the number of files that can be uploaded per day so one person uploading 1000 files is no problem at all. You can upload all 1000 files in a pack but each one needs to be listed separately on the DLS, that is just the way it works. What if a route only needs 2 or 3 of these assets? Do you think that downloading 1000 assets just to get 2 or 3 is a good idea?

All the items by Wedge Antillies are updates to existing items bring them up to the new standards - they may not even be by WA himself.

And you can set the CM filter to show items that aren't by Wedge ("AND NOT author = Wedge_Antilles") and see the other assets that were uploaded yesterday.

I guess it might be annoying to those who have downloaded the entire suite of assets on the DLS to find 1000's of updates.

But it looks to me as WA is updating his/her stuff in preparation for TANE now, which in my view, is a very good thing.

For the OP, why don't you propose a zip download solution to N3V via the HelpDesk? If these downloads are messing up your daily limit then consider buying an FCT.

Good Morning All
If you have any suggestions for Trainz, or functions relating to Trainz, please post them in the suggestions boxcar forum section. The helpdesk isn't the appropriate place to send suggestions for Trainz :)

Please note, we do not plan to change the way the DLS handles assets. There is no limit to the number of assets that an uploader can upload at the same time (they may have to split the upload over several cdp files though).

If we started 'bundling' assets such as this, you would need to download ALL of them any time a route used only one or two. If this occurred for every asset 'set' created, you could end looking at several GB of downloads just to download what would have been a couple of hundred MB of assets...
