I just got trainz 2006 in the mail. I was having alot of fun operating the different trains. Unfortunately every time I "test drive" in savayor mode my computer completely freezes and I have to reboot. No matter how much stuff I have in there. If its one track or a whole city. It just completely freezes. Can someone please help? Are my settings too high or something?

Specs.

1gb ram
2.59ghz core 2 duo
256mb graphics card

Im using openGL as my display settings and 1024 x 768 as resolution. I don't have dirext10 only 9. So I didnt check that. I have all other settings on default. Please help me enjoy this game :'(:'(

Everything passed. Except my drivers which are 44 months old.

This might be your problem.
If your video card (which model you didn't say) is a similar age, yes, this could be a problem. Why not update the drivers and see what might happen? Also switch to directX and see if it makes any difference.

Cheers

Ok it has now turned into a serious problem. I switched settings to OpenGl, lowest resolution 800x600, (boy is that ugly) bit depth of 16, all tuning settings on lowest quality, everything on lowest quality. And it still freezes.

Its obviously no longer a hardware issue. I've paied $20.00 for a game I can't even play. Is there any suggestions or anything?

Should I update to build 3092?
Should I do a re-install?

How can I contact Auran.

:(

Wow..just wow.. After a complete re-install I now have a fatal error..

Thanks for letting me down Auran. :'(

Try updating your video drivers. We know the software works on the majority of hardware and that these sorts of crashes are generally hardware or driver related. Unfortunately we can't test on every possible configuration but it is highly likely that the problem needs to be fixed at your end.

Your trying to use drivers way older than the game itself, Up-Date.
Have you got the SP1 Patch installed too, and disable the intro to stop the opening crash.
Search the forum and you will find 3 years of answers to any question on TRS 2006.

256mb graphics card
Is this an onboard card?
Try this:
Start>Run>
then type in: dxdiag

Paste your graphics card details here.
Also check you have DX9 installed.

I've been reading some other threads on this. I'm not the only one.

It seems this has worked for some people:

"Try deleting assets.tdx and assets.bku files then CMP will re-build the database"

I appreciate your help.

Don't get too upset with Auran. It could just be a faulty one that you have got. 99.9% of the time they work.

I gig ?

It seems that 2 gig ram is suggested, even with XP. I can not play TRS2006 on my GF Toshiba 1 qig Vista laptop. Without an upgraded gaming video card, low end XP laptops may stall, freeze, and shut down in Trainz. Even a low end XP desktop may have it's limitaions in Trainz, which is a VERY demanding program. It is not just another cheepo video GAME, it is a demanding PROGRAM and it is REAL !

There ar some 8 gig Vista desktops for under $700, and 3 gig in Vista inever gave me a problem with a Nividia 8600 Video card.

You get what you pay for !
