DISAPPEARING AUSSIES (not much Australian content left in 2012)

I notice that 2012 does not have nearly as much local Australian, NSW, SAR, VR etc as the previous version of TRS (TRS 2010)...What is happening here?... I see we have a lot of internatioinal stuff like from China, Russia, HOTT, UK, etc, but the first thing I noticed when I installed TRS 12 is that the SAR AHRS 520 is gone, but the centenary coach that is part of 'The Steamranger' is still there... I knox I can go and download the 520, but then you also find yourself having to make sure you get all of the dependencies for it...

I notice that progressively as new versions of Trainz Simulator comes out, there seems to be less and less Australian items there than there were in previous editions of it... sounds to me like a bit of phasing out is going on here and we are left with not as much inbuilt Australian assets

What is happening here is that you don't wanna create Australian content. Instead of complaining about a lack of it, start creating.

The reason there's a lot more international stuff in TS12, people created it, what a concept:hehe:

But go ahead and get paranoid, the issue isn't lack of content, it's lack of content creators willing to build the content. I can assure you I don't build any Aussie content because I don't live in Australia I don't build content based in the Northeast United States either I build strictly stuff centered around the Southwest United States which is where I live.

But if you need a hand, always look first at the end of your own arm;)

Charming...

I bet you're gonna see a lot of southwest US desert content in TRS12. It's about the only thing a route builder can do convincingly with SpeedTrees.

Cheers,
Fred

Coming from someone who doesn't know what a speedtree looks like, your point is what again?

Avery Drexel isn't desert Southwest, or hadn't you noticed? Oh wait that's right you don't have 2010 to actually see what a speedtree looks like.

Because actually there are only two types of trees there really desert oriented that are speedtreez, the Joshua tree and the Saguaro cactus the rest of speedtreez are pretty much either European or Midwestern or Northeastern.

But it still doesn't take away from the fact that if people want content from a particular area, the answer is simple learn how to make it and make it.

NOT ALL OF US ARE EXPERIENCED

What really needs to be remembered here is that not all of us are as experienced enough to create assets... I had a look at GMAX, and decided to leave that well alone and to the experienced professionals

Is't there a program where one can reskin items that now use the .im type file... I did read some time ago a reply to a posting where there was such a program or facility that has kind of replaced the old Paintshed idea....

I did feel that TRS 10 had more Australian gear, but in TRS 12.... I find a lot of the gear from even TRS 10 missing....

US GEAR MUCH BETTER

I've got to say that the engine and horn sounds for the new US content is far superior to that we have previously had in TRS.... and that fire in the exhaust of one of the US Sante Fe locomotives is superb as an effect...

Trainz isn't the only computer game that uses speedtrees. But then, you wouldn't know that. :)

Really? Even the Acela?
To speak to your original comment though, Auran will invite a group or creator to include their/his/her route in a new release if it meets certain requirements. They have investing in Speedtrees for the future, so that would be one of the requirements. Perhaps an Australian route was not ready, near enough complete, or the creator(s) did not want to replace their trees with Speedtrees, so they opted to not be included in the release. There are many other reasons as well, I've been remotely involved in the process a long time ago, and you would be surprised what details have to be worked out between Auran and the route builders. It could be something as simple as a summer route versus a winter route, depending on what new feature Auran would like to showcase.

I understand your feelings seeing as how Auran is an Australian company in it's genesis, but I don't think there's a conspiracy to limit the release of content from the magnificent nation down under.:)

The main issue is that the legacy content from earlier versions of Trainz has been removed from TS12, and there aren't any Australian routes in TS12. I believe the old content is now available on the DLS, so the content is still available but is a little less convenient.

Well, that's true, and a good point. A caveat though, I believe if a suitable route had been available, they would have included the legacy content required, and protected it from error checking through CM as they have before. Of course; really....what do I know?

That's a rhetorical question by the way, you needn't answer!:hehe:

On a serious note, anything can be found via CMP+; for example, I found Module City custom Map which did not came with T12!

G'Day All,
If you make a fresh install of TS10 then install TS12 to it you then have TS12 with everything TS10 had as built-in there and as a bonus it is ERROR FREE unless you mess with it.:hehe:
Worked fine for me.
Regards
Barrie
