Did CN take over the BNSF?

Does anybody know whether Canadian National Railways bought the BNSF railway? I heard something about it from my father.

The CN, BNSF merger was attempted in the late 1990s. It was supposed to be called North American Lines or something. Due to opposition from the Union Pacific, as well as Canadian Pacific, and from other sources, the ICC denied the motion to merge.

They have been trying ever since from what I have heard, but now Buffet owns them.

Oh, and CN recently purchased and patched some BNSF warbonnets.

What your'e saying, is that if CN and BNSF ever merge, it will probably be CNs Grand Trunk subsidary that will do the merge.

GT has been gone for a while. CN now controls all of the lines they have in the states themselves.

I lol'd at the CN wedge scheme :hehe:

what in the heck is that?

now there is a paint scheme that without a doubt belongs under the 'Ugly section,I have never seen a locomotive that still bears those colors of its former owner and at the same time bear 'CN' before, the SP/AT&SF red/yellow colors on some of the locomotives here in the states are weird enough in their own right but,a attempted CN/BNSF merger, unbeliveable!

CN does it all the time. there are several blue CN units around here that were old Conrail and LMS units. they simply have a white CN on them and are still CR blue.

Why does CN not abandon all US operations for good?

One reason: profit. CN's lines which operate in the states probably generate too much profit in order for CN to shut down ALL US operations. The same can be said for CP, as there are many CP operations that take place in the Northeastern US and eastern Canada, despite their name being Canadian PACIFIC.

I would love to see that! The only patched CR locos I have ever seen are either owned by CSX or NS.

I see them on occasion. Personally, I call them Oreos. Not my photo, but I've seen about three of them in real life.

Unlike some railroads, CN loves to put off locomotive repaints. Here are our local switchers in Kankakee, Illinois:

That IS my video. Classic EJ&E SD38 "The J" locomotive with a GTW GP40.

Not to mention CN just bought a crap load of old C40s from UP.

Cheers,
Joshua

It would look nicer if CN and CP painted their locomotives a bit more frequently, as some locos in Halifax are looking like they need a repaint.
