Derailed

Hi, I am new to this, and have got trainz on the iPad. Please can someone tell me if I can get back on the track if my train derails? Thanks!:)

Well maybe you should register a copy of Trainz first, then you will get all the help you may need.

Hi Deano5,
umm... like I said 'new'... er.. very new. When you say register a copy of trainz, is this something that is not the ipad app? Sorry to be so hopeless, I want to work this out (in truth so I can help my kid out!) So, tell me where I'm going wrong, and what I need to do and that'd be cool! :-)

At the top of this site is a TAB with the name "Serial Number" on it, click on it and add your number to the space provided.

Hi Wyonate... what's the rerail portal on the dis? (I don't know?)
Once you get registered, go to the Download Station and just search for Rerail Portal. Once you find, if its still available, download it, open in surveyor, find an area where you want to place it, place it, connect the track to the main line or where ever, click the question mark and it'll ask your some options. Start the game and when/if you go on the ground again (wreck) it'll come out of the portal ready to go again.

Hey Wyonate and Deano5,
Thanks for your help here! :-)
I'm not sure how to register an ipad app. (There's no serial number).
Does this mean that I have to purchase something else in order to get help, and if so, ...what?
I will level with you, I have a kid with a train obsession, and I got him the ipad trainz when he wanted to drive a train, rather than just the usual kid train puzzles. He loves it, and drives 5 trains simultaneously (at least thats what I think he's doing!). He has autism, so can't tell me.
But when he crashes a train off the rail, I don't know how to help him get it back on track. And in despair... I have turned here for a bit of help.
If it's wrong of me to ask because I haven't bought the right thing... well, that's ok, I just don't know. I'm not trying to be cheeky... I'm just trying to help my kid the best I can... and I really appreciate all of your replies. Thanks! :-)

On the box or the case there should be a number on it. It should be 6 sets of numbers and/or letters 4 numbers/letters each... exsample 1a2b-6j90-1767-5h8d-7t88-h8s0. Those are just made up serial numbers but that is what it looks like. It should be on the box or case. And don't worry about asking for help, I do it all the time lol. I'm tryin to paint a locomotive and asking for help. Everyone around here is really cool. Bout the only place I've ever seen 100,000+ people gathered and limited arguments and out bursts :)

That's the problem (I think!) The ipad app doesn't have a box or a case, you just download it from the itunes store. So, I'm begining to think that this is the cause of my troubles. Perhaps I can't get help, or back on the track...
Thanks for your help Wyonate, it's very kind of you to take the trouble to try and help.
:-)
Good luck with your loco painting!

As most of you know, I'm often the first to say "register your Trainz before you get help" but...

...I don't think the iPad version can be registered, nor any of the mobile versions. There is no option to do so under Serial Number.

Also, I don't think the mobile versions can use Trainz content let alone access the DLS, at least not the iPad. Take a look at this:

Below is a group of forums called Maintenance of Way. There is a subforum called iPad Trainz. Can you see it?

Hi Delticfab,

I know that I can not help you with your Trainz App for the Ipad.

Did you know that there are new Ipad apps available for children with autism?

http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/resource-library/autism-apps

Saw this on a TV show here and it showed how young autistic children can have basic communication. The Ipad is ideal for this situation.

You can also Google for more info for the Ipad apps on this subject.

Wish you and your son a good day.

Regards,

RRSignal... Thanks! I found the iPad forum, and have been learning... For a while now, I've been struggling to try and make sense of certain things, and now I realise, I am not alone!! :)
There are others out there... But most have experienced the full versions so knew what to expect, and when something didn't work, they just knew it wasn't working. For me, as the iPad was my starting point, I've just struggled, and struggled.. But it's ok, now I know... The iPad version needs an upgrade, and quick! ;)

Thanks so much for your help in directing me around the forum. :)

Aardvark, thank you! We got an iPad to help our little boy with all sorts of things relating to his condition... But all roads lead to trains in this house!
He has a good degree of communication, but the things he wants to do on trainz are beyond his ability to communicate them verbally. So, he just works stuff out by trail and error, and having a parent that will have a go at helping. I knew parenting was never going to be easy, but no one told me that it involved driving Deltic Diesels around a railway yard! (to think I didn't know a steam train from a diesel a few years ago....) Thanks for your help... Much appreciated! :)

The bets place to get an answer to this is to ask the question in the Ipad area of the forums thats where the Ipad trainz gurus hang out they do not normally hang in the rest of the forums as its of no use to them.:D

As a single parent with an autistic kid for 22 years now, I can tell you the best thing is a desktop computer, one of the PC versions of Trainz, and a raildriver console;

This would be fun too;

I haven't figured out how to work the rerail portal in TS2010 yet, but my autistic son is working on it now - he has the trains respawning after they derail, but can't click to select and drive it again after that. Best option is to teach the kid how to set up his own sessions with multiple player trains, when he derails one just grab another one and drive that instead. After you run out of spares obviously you have to restart the session without the rerail gizmo, but with a dozen or more player trains you can derail a lot. My son deliberately crashes the Thomas & friends models from http://si3d.jimdo.com/ into each other all day long. :hehe:
