Denver & Rio Grande

It may be. It may not. The world may never know. But, we can try.

There are 9 routes, each consisting of 5 to 15 cities. If the people that had an interest in those routes got together creating it, it could happen.

But, with help or alone, I'm going to give it a go.

If I fail, you can always say, I told you so.;)

Well I hope I am not stopping you from go ahead just little background on how many have tried and failed. I would love to see finally finished. Go ahead give it a go:).

hi mate

i would love to see the d&rg in trainz

i had the goose trains before my hdd took a dive and some of the maps,
but i never got anything done

cheers

Hi Maddox61:

I'm retired, 67, and spend 8 to 12 hours a day on my computer Gmaxing (which is probably why I have over 4000 items on the DLS). Ignore the naysayers and have fun.

Ben

It takes a little more than that to get me ruffled.
I will give it an attempt. Some people just look at things wrong. If you try and don't succeed, well, atleast you can say you tried.

Nothing would ever get done if no one took a chance because another failed.;)

Maddox61: I to am retired Navy and this is the most important game to me than any other..You never know if your going to fail or not is to try..Without Trainz I'm sure I would be lost..so I'm for you 100%..Happy Trainzing..

Man, lets all get together then and give it a go.
The worst that could happen, is that we have fun trying. Right?
And if we did succeed, it would be a firts in train modeling, since no one , even in HO scale has been able to replicate the D&RG lines.

Another thing is, Santa Fe buffs may also want to get invalved as well, since the Santa Fe was the one that cut most of the path through the gorge.

Some of my kin worked the Santa Fe line.
One until he swung off the side of a caboos and got nocked off by an oncoming train. He was ok after about 6 months. LOL

Scale

One question I do have.

In the servayor, is the Hight Value, if using metric scale, still in feet, or is it 1 = 1 meter.

If meters, I just ran a test on a sample gorge and reach a elavation of 9840ft.

This is slightly short of the highest point on the D&RG. If so, can be resolved by lowering the table as well by -2,000 feet and using that as our sea level. giving us a 1,200ft true scale elevation?

Matter of fact, I'm going there now to see if it can be done.

Since i took a holiday a couple of months back to the Denver area, i've also been very keen to model either the Tennessee or moffat passes although maybe in more modern era, but due to a lack of a DEM map and the sheer scale of everything i don't think it will ever happen:( That Canyon in the Royal Gorge NP was wicked, (did you have a look at the pic i put up on my thread?) It would take either a master in texturing or spines to make that look anywhere near realistic...
I wish you luck in you DRGW route.

I found out, you are right. I need to figure out how to creat a cliff without distorting the splines. I did figure out how to get an elevation of 19,685ft or 6,000m but on the edges, the spline gets badly distorted. Can spline be added, and if so, how would I go about it?

I do know that the currant spline is, I believe, 10m. But I am hoping that it can be adjusted as you would an 3D program. Or atleased added.

Thanks Madox61

I found out that it can not be done.

The only way is to actualy model the cliff face. However, this could be a good thing, since cliff walls could be created with an almost nill polly count.
And I did find some already made in the system that realy looked good.

The hardest part would be creating the texture images.

Maddox61: The way I do texturing is, Putting the paint circle as small as you can(Intricate stuff rocks etc.)..Then as you are painting you can touch the bracket key at the same time and you can turn the texturing..also use the bracket key to get rid of the pattern look..Don't be afraid trying new things can sometimes derive something new and good..
