Hello,

I am in need of a DEM for my payware route. I already have TransDEM and have made a few maps such as ones for the Vandalia Railroad and Effingham Railroad. Even though those are about 5 square miles at the most, it took me quite some time to make them. Now with this payware route, it is 121 recorded miles in length. a DEM like that would take me months to complete. I am asking this favor because I cannot afford to miss school work focusing on Trainz as my grades are my main priority. Plus, I have limited internet usage (5 GB per month) which prevents me from downloading the large files.

Would anybody be so kind to do this if I provide the information required? :)

Blake to make the DEM is about 1% of the time to do the route (and that's probably an exageration!). If you haven't got time for the DEM, where is the other 99% of the time coming from?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: In my humble opinion if a route builder doesn't have the drive and determination to make the DEM right at the start when passion for the project is running at its hottest there is no way in the word you are going to get through the sheer mind-numbing tedium of a 120-mile route-building project when background textures are boring you brainless night after night after night....

Just my .02c !

I plan on working on the route over spring break and summer break when I don't have schoolwork. As of right now, I am way behind schedule and don't have the time to make the DEM as I am still new to it. I would rather have somebody who has had experience in making DEM's and knows what they're doing.

Thanks for mentioning that Dermmy, I am pulling hair out doing texture work and I needed to be reminded I am not the only one.

Blake, you can do this because you have TransDEM, one of the most complete utility softwares I know of. Start with one or two files for the DEM and use 1/3 arc/sec maps. You can join them in Surveyor using the merge function. Identify each map by a town or landmark and keep track of the names for use in Surveyor.

A good read of the user manual is necessary and you can make your first map using the tutorials.

Don't forget the TransDEM website and forum communities. Roland Ziegler is more than happy to help if needed.

Thanks guys for your input. I was told by JCitron that making the route is the most important part and that I should take my time with it, as it is payware and it will be released when I say so. As for the limited internet usage problem, all of that will be solved tomorrow.
