Dell notebooks

Hello to all...
Just wondering, does anyone out there know whether any of the trainz sims (even the earlier ones) will run on either a Dell D610 or a D620.

Thanks

Hi dd - You may wish to compare specs with Dell's Inspiron 6400 which does an adequate job. This means it works pretty good as long as you keep Trainz demands under control (no driving passed engine sheds with 2 or 3 locos in them). The Inspiron 6400 also kicks out enough heat to fireup a steam loco which is probably impacting performance!

If the 610 / 620 laptop units spec less than the Inspiron, personally I would not go there.

Good luck. Colin.

Dell D610

Thanks for the quick reply.
These are the specs for the D610 Which are slightly higher ( I think) than the Inspiron 6400 so maybe it could run...?

Pentium M 760 (2.00Ghz w/ 533Mhz FSB)
512MB (2x256) PC3200-DDR2 (400Mhz)
14.1" SXGA+ (1400x1050 resolution)
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 w/ 64MB dedicated RAM
Fujitsu 60GB HD (5400RPM)
8x DVD+/-RW (dual layer)
Intel Pro 2200 wireless (802.11 b/g)

Hi dd - I am not a techie ...... but my 6400 had a 256mb ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 video card, 1GB memory, and a 1.83GHz/667MHz processor. These factors (I believe) make the 6400 better equipped (than 610 / 620) to handle the demands of Trainz.

Hopefully some of our more learned Trainz members will throw some comments into this thread.

Stay tuned!

Colin.

Thanks again Driver Col...
Here are specs for the D620

Intel Core Duo T2400 1.83GHz
1GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM (2 x 512MB config)
80GB 5400RPM HD
14.1-inch WXGA screen
Integrated graphics (Intel Media Accelerator 950)
24X CDRW / DVD Combo
Windows XP Pro

I'm not sure but because it's a later model, I assume that it may be a little faster.

The D630, which appears to be Dell's successor to D620 does not show anything about a video card? You do not mention it either. Maybe it is in terminology that I do not recognize, but the video card is a major component which should be clarified before you commit to anything!

By the way, my intro to Trainz was with TRS2004 on a Dell Dimension 4600 (Desktop) with a 64mb video card. It was quite frustrating so I upgraded to a GeForce 6600GT 128mb card which was an improvement but still left a lot to be desired...... and so on.......... and so on. For software which is so inexpensive .............. it is a great spender of upgrade money! No regrets however!

:)

Colin.
