Deleting Obsolete Assets

Click on the installed tab in CM. Next in the search box select out of date = true. Use select all to select all the assets in the window and right click on them and select asset versions. When the box opens click on view in main window. In the search box select out of date = false. You will now be left with all the folders that can be updated. Use select all and download. Note that some of these may be or have dependencies of a high version than your installation, these will simple go red and not download. Any update of a built in asset will make the built in asset obsolete which has been said cannot be deleted, All others will simply be replaced.

Some of those 2000 assets may be several updates of the same asset, say you have version :2 and the newest version is :8 the update icons will show for :3, :4, :5, :6, :7 and :8 but only :8 will actually download.

To help manage the obsolete and out of date assets, I have setup the following search filters:

Out of Date:

Out of date = True
Installed = True
Obsolete = False

Obsolete and NOT Built-in:

Installed = True
Obsolete = True
Built-in = False

John

i took it a bit further:

Installed = False
on DLS = true
and not
built in
or
obsolete
or
out of date
or
has update

This gives you a list under each cat of all items showing on DLS as downloadable i then select by author as sort command

it still how ever gave a lot of un-known to DLS items when i tried to download them or items that would then show as obs or has update

will compile list when fone of all thhese for help desk and see if i can post here in some thread

Thanks. I'll give it a try and try and post back. I was wanting to try it right now but another damn EDR as soon as I fire up CM. I've noticed since upgrading to a new machine and Windows 8.1 Trainz wants to do an EDR's much more often. Even after Tadameon is closed. They rarely ran on my old machine and Vista.

Reading through your post are you saying even though CM shows update available I might not be able to download the update? I could see this on a few assets but not over 2,000. I'm familiar with CM going red when trying to download something with the incorrect build number. That's not what's going on here. CM goes straight to idle. Remember If I search for the update by name I can then download no problem but this isn't going to work for over 2,000 assets.

Answer is yes, CM will show all asset up dates including any asset in-between your version number and the latest version number. It is only when it downloads that the ones in-between will just vanish from the list. CMP since 2010 shows all assets above its build mine lists 3.8 even though I don't have that build nor TRS12.

Ok i have just finished downloading all the items on the download station says can be downloaded and yes in most cases it will list stuff as has update or obsolete. However I have a list of 28550 items that show up in a searchh as i descrobed below that show as available on download station and when you try to download them you get path not found and this isnt including the 3.8 stuff now showing up. I have sent list and a query to the helpdesk and i will update as i can

Thanks for keeping this thread alive. I'm still having issues too. I show over 2,000 assets that need updating in game and through CM but I'm not able to download more than one at a time. This is not a realistic solution. :(

hey all,

I have sent my mega list of un-downloadable but showing as downloadable assets to help desk working on it BUT had an issue with windows and had to rebuild computer AGAIN!

This ment I had to reinstall TS 12 but I was able to retain all the old TS 12 stuff so once i downloaded the latest downloadable install files and installed it, I did the old cut and paste to the new directory of all the stuff in the old directory. All works fine.

Here is the strange thing though, now all those assets that wouldnt download are apparently downloading ok working back from todays date on the list and will post here the result.

so for those with problems try a fresh install of latest version install files and cut and paste directories from old location it may help

Hey All,

OK here is the sort of solution to my download problems and constant data base repairs in CM:

1) When downloading if you select a large number of items it will confuse the CM download helper and it will show some as unavailable when in fact they are!

2) Items showing as Build 3.8 are not compatible with PC Trainz but no real answer on how to stop them showing in a search result!

3) payware items that show up on CM cant be filtered out and cant (obviously) be downloaded unless you have already purchased the item. This sounds like a bit of payware advertising since if you purchase anything and have to reinstall it is automatically re installed when you first log on to the TS 12 start page, so why do they need to show in CM anyway????

4)It is not recommended to download a large amount from the DLS freeware as it makes the data base file too large and subject to corruption, this sounds logical till you think about data base files on some systems are even terabyte in size. However it does explain the dreaded TADD rebuild problems some are having.

Hope this helps you all with the CM issues you may be having.

Cheers Becky

I'm still confused. Why can't I update / download these assets? It doesn't matter if I try one, six, or all of them at a time. It simply doesn't work. CM goes from searching to idle in seconds.

The symbol in the top right corner of each asset says there are updates available, These are not always picked up by dragging the asset into the download window. Instead right click on the assets then view asset versions. This will list the latest versions that are available and you should be able to download those.

Following Jcitrons instructions in post 22 I've deleted all my non built in obsolete assets. When I then changed the bottom value from False to True to see what comes up, I find I have in excess of 10,000 built-in obsolete items. A great waste of space and potential to slow things down but apparently they cannot be deleted as the delete button is greyed out. Do we just leave them as is, or is it possible to fix it by using the 'disable'' or the 'archive' option? Does that remove them from the active game or is it likely to cause me grief? Cheers

They are unfortunately stuck as they are built-in. I too have wondered this as I also have a gazillion built-in ones too that can't be deleted.

Following these steps on on the the first very asset this is what I get. Can anyone explain this?

That may be a case of your version not being high enough to download the asset - some require CM 3.4 (TS2010 SP4), 3.5/3.6 (TS Mac 1/TS12), 3.7 (TS12 SP1) or 3.8 (TS Mac 2).

The ones with question marks have never been on the DLS, may have been on a third party site or may not even exist if the creator has missed out a few version numbers.
The one shown as available on the DLS is the latest version, if it won't download then it may be for a higher build than you have, actually in this case it's build 3.5. which is TS12 release version so it is of no use for 2010.

That problem can be avoided by using the Text view for assets, right click on the Type Status etc bar and put a tick in build version, then you can see at a glance before downloading if it is suitable for your version of Trainz, saves a lot of head scratching.

So I wonder f this could be the case for the 2,600 plus assets that show there is an update available?
