DEFAULT SPEED

Hi all,

I've already trolled though the manuals and can't find it there. And I had a look through the forum and can't find it there either. How do I change the default speed from 40mph/65kph to what I want it to be?

Any ideas?

While I do appreciate, and thank you for the reply, it doesn't really help. I want to change the default speed for the entire layout, and any new layout I start in the future, rather than having to place lots of little speed boards. I also want to know how to change the default switch lever as well. Most of the info on the forum seems to cover TRS2004/06/10 and so on, but I only have TC3 and the info I am looking for seems to be very hard to find. Ok, I know it's not a particularly important thing, and it isn't detrimental to the operation of the games itself, but it would make my experience with it, and I'm sure many others as well a lot more enjoyable if I could set it up the way I want it right from the get go.

Pretty sure - certain in fact - that 40 mph is hard-wired in as the default speed. You don't need lots of speedboards, just one a short distance in front of each train at the start of a session. If you don't want any visible speed boards (can't think of a reason why not) there are 'invisible' ones on the DLS.

The lever though is easy - just edit the region you are using and swap the kuid for your lever of choice for that of the default monstrosity...

Andy ;)

I understand what you mean but can you explain how I do that.

Wait, I got it, thanks for the info Andy

I am using CSX Speedboards (50 Mph, 35 Mph & 15 Mph ) and they get "clipped" by passing trainz, but that doesn't bother me.

Also with speedboards, in alot of cases, train will not obey a speedboard ahead until its last car passes, so you have to allow ample room for train length, for the last car to pass.

With my route, using 12,000 ton loaded coal trains that have 6 head end locos, 2 rear end helpers, and are 107 cars long, I have added signals so that a train has 3 signals (one protecting front, and one protecting rear, and one in mid train), in other words my train takes up @ 2 blocks (actually 1-3/4 blocks), but the train fits comfortably within the 2 blocks.

Also "Name" your speedboards (ex: "35 Mph EB") so that you don't have to hunt for them, if you decide yo edit them out, or change them.

As with prototype operation Trainz obey speed limit decreases when the first loco passes the board, but speed limit increases are not effective till the last car of the train has passed.

Just think about it - you can't take the lead units through a 15 mph crossover, then gun the train up to Notch8 with 10,000 feet of intermodal still to pass over the crossing! The speed board needs to be immediately after the crossing to allow trains of any length to accelerate as soon as they are in the clear, but NO train can accelerate till the last car is clear of the low speed limit...
