DEFAULT HORN SOUND LOUSY

Time to scrap that lousy pathetic 'Default Horn Sound' in Trains... you can barely hear it, I have been using 'The Diesel Horn' that is used with the Silver Comet and that really makes any unwanted person get off the line real quck, unlike the rather inaudible 'Default' Horn sound that is assigned to many of the locomotives when you install TRS...

The Horn sound used on the CN Trainmaster would be good to if only it were a bit louder, but that often tends to get lost in the engine sound of the CN trainmaster and other similar engine sounds of the Canadian Locomotives that are assigned in TRS... I suppose there is no way of boosting the volume level of the horn sounds... first of all you have to be able to access them, and they would all be contained in a ja. file, so that you cannot even get to try the other horn sounds listed in TRS to see if you like them or not before you go changing to them....

The onlly way to sample the hornsounds is in Railyard, and even then you cannot get into the ja. file if that is where they all are, to boost the volume level of them. I am sure though that if onie could get in and boost the 'Default Horn Sound' used for Auran, that would sound a whole lot more impressive, but to my knowledge there is no way that you can access the horn sound files to do that

Hi Bushymo

In TRS2006, TC1/2, TC3, and TS2009 you can open most items included in trainz, and edit the config.txt file (either in notepad or CCP) and change the items used. This includes the enginesound, enginespec, and hornsound.

The default horn sound is just that, the default. It is there to give people an asset that is included in Trainz to use. Of course, there are MANY default horn sounds. Not all of them suit a particular situation, but many are actually quite good for many locomotives. Same as not all are prefect, but then thats why the kuid system is so good, it's easy to just change a number in the config.txt to another kuid to give it a horn sound that YOU like.

Of course, you can also open the horn sound up and edit the sound files.

However, you would not be able to upload them without the original creator's permission.

USING THE DIESEL HORN

Thanks Zec... of recent times I have just discovered the 'Diesel Horn' used for the NSW Silver Comet... that one really makes unwanted track wanderers jump out of their skin and off the line in a hurry!... I used to often use, and still do sometimes use the Nathan's... particularly the KUID:'223 and '148 ending ones, that sound quite impresssive... or the VR three chime horn sound, but I have assigned some of my locomtives with 'The Diesel Horn' listed in the TRS 09....

I notice that some of the NSW tracks listed in 09 go white if I try to use them in the old TRS 06, which I think may be the spanish verson of TRS 06, because when you load a map and you have missing dependencies, you are warned or asked if you want to download missing dependencies or load the map anyway' is written in spanish instead of english....That is the version that came with Trainz Collection that I bought at EB last time I was in Adelaide... but even though I do get the Unable to Register Trainz URL a couple of times, It still allows me to change the horn sound etc in it, but I only have it on for the use of Paintshed in it, because I still like to do the odd reskin in it....

It is not often that I go to Adelaide but when I do, I go out to Dry Creek, where I see rolling stock of CFCLA, Coote Industries, or SCT, and while some rolling stiock for two of these are slowly becoming available in the DLS, If ind Paintshed very handy to do my own reskins of rolling stock that best resembles what I have seen, though any paintshed reskin could never be exact and si never meant to... this is where Paintshed is good..

However, I think it may well be time that Paintshed reskins be somehat banned from the DLS, becasue there are so many of them, that they do become like a 'Dime A Dozen' and one loses count of the number of DL 531's and 2100 type reskins on the DLS.... one does tend to want to skip them now where some years ago when Trainz UTC and TRS 06 were still the current versions of Trainz available... there was not all that much available other than Paintshed Reskins...

Trainz was pretty much in its early days, and we all did Paintshed Reskins... but now I feel that maybe it is time to say 'No More Paintshed Reskins for the DLS Please!....

As you look through the DLS, it is not hard for one to see that the DLS is absolutely saturated with Paintshed reskins of some kind, and we all did them, and many of us would be guilty of that...

Maybe if Paintshed were to be retained, it could be made for people who just want to dablble with reskinning for their own layout... I say, perhapes we don't entitrely do away with Paintshed, because as many people on the forum have stated, it is still a very good learning tool for beginners, but make it so that items from it cannot be submitted for the DLS....What about htat idea Zec?....

We all know that too much of something can cheapen the appeal of a very good product like Trainz... and Yes... I think that Paintshed should be kept and retained but not used for producing items for the DLS...

That is just an idea, because as a Paintshed reskinner myself, I am just one person who has done items for the DLS and I go back now and see my old creations and say 'What is That!?...Did I serously put...THAT in the DLS...Gawd!....Take them out!...Scrap them!...They look terrrrrruble. Did I reallly put that in the DLS... Nah! Take Them Out... I don't believe I ever submitted that .... I'd be happy to see my old Bushy Mo Rail stoff go, what about other members and some of their items that they are now wondering why on earth they ever submitted them... there surely must be many of us out here who would gladly see some of our less than professional reskins taken to the DLS scrapheap
