Deadly texture - Arizona Rock 5

Has anyone else fallen foul of this one, or is it only my system that has a problem with it?

Arizona Rock 5 is a new groundtexture by Chuffbuff, kuid:224165:2715. It's a Trainz 2.4 asset, but said to be TRS2006-compatible. The trouble is, if I have it in my kuid folders, TRS2004 crashes to desktop during its start-up cycle. Took me all day to isolate it by way of binary splits of my Downloads folder and testing in TRS2004.

If others report similar problems, I will PM chuffbuff to say there is something amiss with the asset. If not, I guess I will simply archive it and move on.

I have the same problem. Thanks for your forum-contribution - I would never have found this reason for the crash!!
I deleted the Arizona Rock 5 texture in TrainzObjectz within a second, and the problem is gone.
By the way: Arizona Rock 3 works fine.

Same problem here, the good thing was that it was one of two latest additions to a reliable running route. Deleted both prob fixed. Thanks for the information I can now reload the other one.

The reason it crashed for me was because it had arizona rock 5.texture file. I converted it to bmp, wrote up a text file for it and it works perfectly. My guess is that 04 can't handle the dot texture files. I also corrected the spelling in the config to match the actual texture. not sure if that had anything to do with it or not though.

I'm not sure it's just a problem with TRS '04; this asset also shows up as having an error in my TRS 2006 CMP. I just thought my copy was corrupt....

It's a good thing you have brought this to our attention Deane. (thanks for your email).

It appears that someone who goes by the name of "ntesdorf" has been tampering with other user's assets and has therefore manipulated my texture asset with the same name and re-uploaded it in order for it to cause unexpected behaviour.

My kuid for the updated Arizona Rock 5 is 103179:100270:1 Not 224165:2175.

May this be of some help to those of you who are experiencing conflicts.

Cheers!

Hey chuffy,

Thanks for that info since I am using your textures on my Desert Rock layout! Just in case I run into the same issue I'll drop you an e-mail!

LOL Ish, there shouldn't be any probs now.. It's a small case of deciphering kuids.

Wow, the plot is thicker than I thought. Apart from plagiarism (a rather large problem in groundtextures) isn't this a violation of some Auran code of conduct? I mean, he has your e-mail address in the config. Are you reporting this person to Auran? Somebody should.

A reply email & possible reconfirmation has just been sent to you Deane.

Yea, I also looked further into this and downloaded the corrupted file by ntesdorf. My my... It is indeed as I had earlier presumed above and would further more have to agree with you Dinorious that this is a breach of Auran's COC.

I think some justly measures should considerably be taken to eradicate this user from causing any further chaos.

Hi Marty,

The plot thickens there are 2 texures that are named the same (Arizona Rock 5 ) with differend kuids by ntesdorf .....:2715 & .....:2716 both using your text file and your contact details.

Not nice "ntesdorf", please report this to Auran.

Cheers,

Bill.

Sorry, it has taken me until now to take this in. Going by the config details of the author and e-mail, they both indicated you (Chuffbuff) were the creator. But as I see from the kuid and the DLS entry, it was indeed made by ntesdorf. At first I thought you had been using 2 different kuids or something (it's not illegal, I think dmdrake did it once when he ran out of sequence numbers). Most confusing though, quite apart from what this particular texture does to the Trainz program.

Thanks Bill,

I've sent off an email to ole mate Alan this-evening in regards to this situation and a linkage of this thread in the hope of eradicating this user from the Auran Trainz community permanately.

This kind of deliberate behaviour without asking for permission of anothers content is far from acceptable. It never hurts to ASK ... My only question to ntesdorf if he has been following this thread is WHY?

Somehow, I don't think I will recieve his answer, although I may be wrong!

Cheers!

Marty

Hi all,

I just had a look at a couple of other items uploaded by "ntesdorf" and found the following; "Fence_Chain_Link_1942" by "TrainzObjectz" email and website complete with licence agreement that asks for acknowledgement.
the otherone : "Abandoned-Building-NYC-2D" by "Tall Trees and Boardwalk Railroad" and their email address.

It is not a one of event.

Cheers,

Bill.

So the pre-checking of uploaded assets is working well i see... :mop:

So many of my ground textures have been simply stolen , given a new config and re-uploaded.. I gave up trying to give a damn.

Good luck Chuffbuff

Wow........."THE GREAT !! RIPPOFF!!................" this is serious ...some IDIOT can get these through with a new kuid and the old owners details ........:p "while aurans not looking i will quickly upload a few payware items under my kuid"... :p .....seriously this is crap!! ...I Swore...............................................................:o

This is incredible.

I've just taken a look at the other stuff on the DS under his name, and I wonder how much of it is actually his work.

According to his profile, he's an architect.
First of all, you wouldn't think he'd need to steal other peoples models if this is the case, and secondly, I wonder how he'd feel if his architectural work was stolen and used by others without a care.

Amazing!!!

Hi Smileyman,

I did check that out before but wasn't going to say that but I do agree wholeheartedly.

Bil.

Of course, he could just be a schoolkid who uses Surveyor in Trainz a lot, and decided to put Architect down because of this. :D

That sort of naivety of youth would go some way to explaining it, even though he's still in the wrong, but if he's anything other than a kid, then he knew what he was doing.

I'd like to hear what he's got to say about this.
Presuming he's not banned for doing this.

Smiley.
